Height Bug or not?

I was playing in my survival world and building a "sky base" with a small mob trap. I thought if i built it at least 144 blocks away from the ground i would get insane spawn rates so i left the area for a little bit and when i went back up there, the whole trap was gone; but the water i placed to swim up was still there. When i got to the top i tried to swim left and right but my character glitched out (as if you were stuck in a world hole). I then went on MC edit to find if it was still there and it was. If can anybody tell me what i can do, or what this is It would be much appreciated!

Huh. Try restarting Minecraft.

I closed it down and everything, still no sign of it.
