I think what best defines what is going on in someone's head when they think of becoming mod/admin is that cover picture that CC used for one of her blogs about this awhile back. You know, the one where He-Man is yelling, "I have the POWER!!!!"

For me, I never pictured it that way. The first time a server owner asked me if I wanted to help out and become OP, I was actually scared. When I accepted the promotion, it turned out to be exactly the way I thought it would be. Xbox Live with text. It is very hard to win an argument without 'carrrying your big stick.' It is really eaisy to be accused of power abusing, and having the accusation stick. It actually took me a few days before realizing that I was actually abusing my powers. You don't realize you are doing it, because you kinda expect the same to come from other mods. Anyway, being mod or admin is something that you have to think about. Are you ready? Can you handle the power, Peter?

The thing that ticks me off about everyone begging for mod and acting like they know what they're doing with being one is that they lose sight of what something was really made for. I currently run a server, and I would say about 50% of the new people who come on play for like 5 minutes not doing anything, then say "CAN I HAZ MODZ". When they should just be having fun on the server and building around. Same type of thing seems to happen on here. People find out moderators get extra stuff or something and they automatically want to be the ones with the power. I don't care what rank I am or how many people like me. I joined the site to talk about Minecraft, and share my creations! And that's what i'm gonna do!

I figure it's due to the fact that I'm one of the more active moderators on the forums

I better stop being so active I think for that first section, I actually broke all those in the first week except the warnings, I bucked my ideas up after that one warning


But yes, there is no sure way to get Mod, mine came out the blue, I saw (1 New Messages) and thought "great.. Someone else on my tail about GFX I have forgotten " opened it up and was like "oh shizz "

fad warnings don't stop you becoming a Moderator I have one warning and have been banned from the site, not just the Forums, should've kept my mouth shut but I didn't

how many moderator requests do you get a day?

me, in particular? it goes through cycles. I'll get nothing for a day or three, then 5 or 10 of them (several of those are friends of the first guy offering their support.) Then it quiets down again. The thing is, *I* don't make those choices, so I just shrug and think "whatever." I figure it's due to the fact that I'm one of the more active moderators on the forums, so people know my name before the other mods.

I originally posted this in the "Moderator" thread in General Discussions, but I suppose it would really help to be here as well:

I think the best way to become a mod or get noticed in any situation is through your actions.

Think of unique ideas, new things to try that no one has really thought of doing. Or, not even that - just do something better than everyone else has done it. This could simply be by putting a little more effort into it than everyone else, or just by putting your own individual twist on it.

Actions DO speak louder than words. However, on these forums and on the internet in general, what you say and how you say it always does matter as well. For example, as a writer I generally edit my more substantial posts at least two or three times even after I post them - making sure everything makes sense to the audience who will be reading it.

This means not only making an attempt to correct careless typos and but also making sure that what I say will make sense and the points I am making will come across clearly in a grammatical and logical manner. The logical side, or "logos," is important, but don't forget the other two sides of rhetoric as well: The way you present yourself to your audience, called "ethos," and appealing to your audience's emotions to get a positive reaction, "pathos". Make sure you use humor or empathize with your audience as well as showing an open mind, competence, and confidence.

Remember, it's important to consider your audience in everything you write that anyone is going to read.

To sum it up:

Make sure you take action!

Only take action once you've put some thought into it.

Don't forget to be yourself!
