There it is. I don't download much, I watch YouTube, and I mostly want it to play SMP servers with my friends on Minecraft. How many mbps do I need for it to run smoothly? I also need suggestions for quality low-cost internet providers. Please help!!!

I want to be able to pay as little as possible while getting quality service. Like I said above, any suggestions for internet providers?

Internet service isn't very expensive overall, and I would suggest looking into every ISP in your area. Some typical ones to AVOID, though, would be Comcast or Time Warner Cable. These, as well as any ISPs that offer internet through satellite rather than fiber, as satellite internet is usually pretty slow for the price you're buying it for. Also, while searching you need to keep in mind how many devices are going to be using the internet at any given time. With only one or two (for example, your computer and your smartphone) I would say 5mbps down would be fine for basic usage and for playing games. However, if you live with your whole family and you've routinely got many things going on (e.g. your computer, your smartphone, the family is streaming Netflix, your parents' smartphones, etc.) then you should get an upgrade. I would say around 20mbps would be fine for all of that. Don't expect fabulous performance while your family is streaming Netflix or anything, but it should still be fast enough to play games on. My family and I had 15mbps down for many years, and although we were only 3 people we were fine to do everything we wanted.

If you live where they provide service, RCN (that's their Chicago website but they serve some other locations too) is what my family and I use, and we get 50mbps down with no hitches whatsoever. They also run really nice introduction promo deals (e.g. free install for higher-tier internet services) and offer pretty nice plans for the price you pay for them.

You need more then 12 Mbps imo.

30 is pretty much the bare minimum.

Uh, no. I lived off of less than 1mbps before, you don't need more than 12. I recently went from 50 to 15 and its still pretty fast. Not the best, not the worst. I'd consider 15 the bare minimum. Also, not everyone can afford internet as high as you do. Someone's standards arent the same as yours.

OP, get as much as you can afford, but still have a comfortable range of money to buy other things afterwards.
