IPod touch displays white screen when turned on
So my iPod has been working for 2 years without failing (yay), but a month ago, I couldn't find it. Today, I finally found it, but when I turned it on, it displays a white screen with thin, black lines moving up and down as if it was trying to display a screen, but failed. It sometimes responds to the power button when displaying the white screen, but not often. When I hold down the power button, or try the power button + home + volume buttons at the same time, nothing happens. Please help!

Put it in DFU mode and wipe/reset the whole iPod. Works 100% of the time.
Cheers.

It's working now!
So I have no idea how this happened. A couple nights ago, I was taking advantage of the blank screen and using it as a flashlight for reading under the covers at night. Then, it suddenly turns off. When I turn it back on, it displays a gray screen, then turns off. At first I thought it was out of battery, but then I was like "Wait, I just charged it an hour ago." So then I turn it back on, and I find myself... staring at a fully functional screen ^.^

I had this same issue when my Nokia Lumia 1020 fell off a building.
But... Nokia...

So it shows up in iTunes, but when I try to back it up to restore it, it says "Cannot back up iPod because it is locked with a passcode. Please unlock your iPod."
Can't do much about that when I can only see a white screen : /

Try sliding and opening it, and then typing in your passcode. This happened to my friends iPhone 3GS and you could do everything with it, OTHER than see the screen. (white screen)
I would suspect it has water damage.

All right, I will try that once I can remember what my passcode is...

I think that it may have been exposed to humidity wich of whom must have damaged the circuts from the inside .

How much humidity are you talking about here?

I have an iPod touch, which does the exact same thing when I turn it on, but only for about half a second, and then it's back to normal...

Erm maybe you should take it in to the apple store. See what they can do for you.

Thanks for the advice. I'll do that if it's not working after I've gotten all the help I can from here.

Hold home+power button to restart it,
or charge it...
or charge it...

It's been charging for 2 hours, and nothing's happened. When I hold down the home + power button, the white screen comes up and my iPod turns off. When I release it, the white screen comes up on its own.

May I ask, is/was your iPod jail broken?
1
No. I don't know how to jailbreak it.

Sounds like one of two issues... Both hardware issues.
It was stepped on perhaps and the screen was crushed, or perhaps you couldn't find it and sat or stepped on it wrong.
The physical connector in the device is broken or damaged.

Nothing appears smashed or cracked. My iPod seems pretty intact on the outside. Where is the "physical connector"?
