You should try Trove.
It's a great game, it has the building aspect like Rust, and has a fun type of fighting style. Completely free as well. The only thing you might want to pay for is costumes, which isn't needed.

Warframe, for sure. It's free and it's addicting.

Goat simulator

I know this Is a bit old school but runescape is a nice old "classic" that can run on minimal settings and is free for the most part downside is you need Internet but I'm sure that won't be a problem

Diablo 3 is very satisfying game to play and you can play with friends in a party of 4 through a story or in adventure mode (once story is completed).
1
Warframe, 100% I've play a good 350 hours into that game. It's also still updating with new warframes/features, so it won't be dying anytime soon.

Guild Wars 2 is an awesome MMORPG, but it isn't free. :/
It's very much worth it though! You can read all about it on the link up there. ^^^
It runs pretty well on low-end PC's as well. Mine isn't too wonderful but can run it on medium-low graphics pretty easily. c:
As I said though, it isn't free, and it may not be your type of game. I just thought I'd throw it in for your consideration though, can't hurt! ^.^
I hope you find a game you like!

I'd try Warframe, or Trove.
Warframe's a 3rd person parkour-y shooter, and trove is kind of like a mix between skyrim, and minecraft, if you made it an mmo.

Its neither MMO nor Free, but once you have your PC see about getting the Borderlands series in the next big steam-sale. I got the 3 major games for a bit more than the price of one, and you can play online with up to 3 friends.

get skyrim, oblivion, morrowind, fallout 3, or fallout new vegas.

I realize these are not free-to-play, but they run sales on it pretty often and if you scan trading websites they often have things where it's like 2 keys from a Valve game (which is $5 in real money) for a game that would normally cost like $20 - it depends on the game, however, because some are worth more than others.
Payday 2
Left 4 Dead 2
Borderlands 2
For free-to-plays:
War Thunder
Dirty Bomb
Team Fortress 2

well, Its kindof somewhat like Dota in that its based off the basic principle of a MOBA, but is very different and much simpler in actual gameplay. Try Robocraft, its free to play (though it does have a premium element), and it means you get to build your own battle robot from block parts, then fight in teams to the death, fight a complex strategy game or a bossbattle where its a few Superstrong giant robots against a lot of smaller ones.
its quite fun, especially now that its balanced properly.
