Minecraft 1.8 Unbelievably Laggy
Oh, Minecraft 1.8, the bountiful update. This update also apparently improves performance greatly. On Singleplayer, I have slightly noticed this. But on multiplayer (including my Minecraft Realm) is unbelievably laggy. It barely lagged at all in 1.7.10, and now in 1.8, it lags like crazy. My settings are all turned down except Render Distance, but I don't want a tiny Render Distance. That'd suck. So basically 1.8 screwed up Minecraft by the looks of it.

I've had no problem with this, if anything it's improved.
It may be your computer as I have a new mac with good graphic card and memory, it may be your computer can't take it as I have to admit mine craft has added sooooo much stuff.

I once tried playing MC alpha and it was literally 10 times faster than 1.8!

Blaze1017Here's two methods that worked for me:
- Turn on VBO's
- Download OptiFine 1.8: http://www.optifine.net/downloads
I hope this helps you!
Sincerely,
Blaze
*facedesk* this thread is dead for 24 days, at the time optifine wasn't out

I'm less laggy in 1.8 ...
1
Laggy as hell for me too. And many glitches the trees were flashing with 8 render distance.
1
My settings are all turned down
That's not always the best solution, you know?
Try to turn on VBO and/or some other options and then tell/show us the results.
1
Im being in the smooth 60 fps zone, you should wait for optifine, a mod that makes minecraft less laggy
1
Nevermind, Turn off Vsync it helps.

I have a BEEFY desktop. 16 gigs of RAM, 4 of which are allocated to minecraft.
I've got an i7-equivalent quad-core processor, along with a GTX 650 Ti Boost GPU.
Computer specs are not the problem.
I created a new, vanilla world in Minecraft 1.8, in SINGLEPLAYER Survival mode. My FPS is high, and stable.
Mods and internet connection are not the problem.
I tested it on my laptop as well. My computer is not the problem.
As soon as I began using 1.8, minecraft became unbelievably laggy, and loading became incredibly slow. Beginning singleplayer on a world takes almost a full minute for the "Downloading Terrain" part. Once I'm in the world, it's empty, and I fall to level -0.3. After about 3 minutes, the chunk I am in loads. No other chunks do. Messing with Render distance and other Video settings does nothing. When chunks finally begin to load, blocks reappear when I break them, and mobs don't move, and can't be hit. Items don't appear on the ground. I don't die in lava.
It acts as if I'm on a server with a ping of 100000 ms. In SINGLEPLAYER. This needs to be fixed.
Strangely, it's not nearly as bad in creative mode.

That's exactly how it is for me. Some of us were hit hard, some of us now have improved game performance. Darn.

1.8 is super smooth for me when chunks aren't loading (around +100 fps) and when chunks load it goes 30 and below. It's the chunks that are most likely lagging a lot of people.

I have the same problem. Yesterday: Smooth as silk; Today: some servers unplayable.
BUT: Playing a multiplayer server hosted on the machine playing it - smooth as silk.
Playing via internet - impossible. Oh I'm getting 130fps, but other entities(players, mobs etc) are only updating every 3-4 seconds.
ALSO: Getting half the 'strength bars' for every internet server.
Talked to a few players - it seems to randomly hit some of us but I can't see a pattern.
Hope Mojang can figure this out asapapapapapap

It's not my computer, as it was working fine yesterday on 1.7.10 with the same settings. It seems that 1.8 screwed over some people's Minecraft experience and improved others'.
1
I'm not getting what I'd consider to be lag, but when I look around, it's very choppy. Maybe I have to mess around with the settings a bit.
1
I don't lag at all now. I used to lag much more on 1.7 bit 3 second lag spikes are much more comon
1
XD no it's release date was /9/2/14
or /2/9/14
or /2/9/14

Same thing happened to me, kinda. Single player is extremely laggy and I was getting 250-300 chunk updates and extreme drops in frames. Multi player ran extremely smoothly after five minutes of play time on the server though.
1
Also, just turn down your render distance!
It will decrease lag a lot. Then you can bump up the other things.

Lol, so many people have been saying 1.8 is laggy. Smooth 60 fps for me!
1
I havent noticed any problems with lag or anything its all been boosted a ton for and runs a lot smoother in my opinion
1
I get around 130-160 FPS [Single Player] and 100-130 [Multiplayer] but I do get a couple of lag spikes here and there. Which can be annoying. Some are more frequesnt than others but does distract me from what I am doing and can sometimes put me off from playing the game
1
Yeah...I'm getting like 40-70 FPS, but its extremely choppy and like laggy.

1..Might be your GPU/GRAPHICARD
2.ITS IN BETA
3.NO LAG FOR ME ON ULTRA SETINGS

It's-- in... beta?
No it's not mate. Thanks for trying to help, but you obviously have no idea what you're talking about.

They'll probably fix this later, anyways
1
Minecraft is always so weird with this stuff. For some it lags, for me, increased by about 100 fps.
1
It runs so much smoother on my desktop. Let me check how it is on my current laptop and get back to you on it. I know it didn't run better on my old laptop though.
1
You can't talk about lag in any way, shape, or forum with the specs I see
1
I'm waiting for Optifine to update. I do agree, though.
