Factions will protect your land from other players. But your land will become vulnerable if you die too much.

do you have chest protection? Can you be killed in your own faction fort?

Chests are protected on faction land, you take half as much damage when your on your faction land but you can be killed. If you build walls that people can't get past you will be fine.
