The Problem

You’re happily playing video games one day, be it Minecraft, Battlefield, Fez, Left 4 Dead, or Civilization, but you realize there’s something wrong - either you’re seeing things, or you’re lagging a lot! There may be lag, lower performance than normal, crashes, stutters, or any assortment of things that go wrong. You decide to go to PlanetMinecraft to solve your problem. If you follow this short guide, you will be up and on your way faster!

The Set-Up

First things first, you need to figure out how to document your problem. There is a short check-list of things you should do to make sure your system is in good working order before you make a thread asking for help.

• First and foremost, you should try to restart the game or program you were using. There could have been a fatal error that occurred while you were using the program that caused it to crash or stutter - sometimes all that needs to happen to fix this is a simple restart.
• If restarting the game still results in a crash, try restarting your whole computer. Clearing out the RAM and giving the computer a moment’s respite may solve your problem.
If neither of these simple solutions work, it is time to get a little bit more technical. When you post a thread asking for help, we need to know your system’s specifications to make sure that everything is running well. Your system’s specifications can be determined easily.

Method One
• First, hold down the Windows key and simultaneously press R.
• Once a small dialog box shows up, type in “dxdiag” without quotations.
• When a prompt box appears, click the “No” option - we don’t need to check to make sure your drivers are signed at this moment.
• Once the diagnostic tool has finished, take a screenshot of the “System” page and of the “Display” page. If you don’t feel comfortable with letting us know your computer’s name, simply draw over it with Microsoft Paint. If you have a service such as Gyazo, Lightshot, or puush, upload to those websites respectively. If you do not, use the snipping tool built in to Windows and then upload the result to a website like Imgur or tinypic.

Method Two (Requires Speccy - See Further Resources)
• Download Speccy, and install it.
• When run, take a screenshot of the main page that lists all of your specifications on it. If you have a service such as Gyazo, Lightshot, or puush, upload to those websites respectively. If you do not, use the snipping tool built in to Windows and then upload the result to a website like Imgur or tinypic.

• Once you have your system’s specifications, you’re ready to go! Post a topic asking for help on PlanetMinecraft.

What are your system’s specifications?
Follow the instructions on http://www.planetminecraft.com/forums/pmc-tech-support-how-get-your-solution-faster-t494132.html if you do not know your system’s specifications

IN DETAIL, describe your problem.
Describe the problem you have been having with your application or game. If there are any mods installed in your game or application, any alterations to code, or if there is a crash report, please provide it here.

What would be your ideal solution to this problem?
Describe what you want the outcome of this problem to be. Be realistic - you cannot expect a computer from 2008 to run a game like Far Cry 4 on anything near maximum settings.

Further Resources

Below is a list of resources that are beneficial to have, use, and will generally make your experience better.

• Piriform’s Speccy - a tool for analyzing your system’s specifications. It also has handy dandy temperature meters available, should you have them. • • Download
• Piriform’s CCleaner - an excellent tool for removing unneeded applications from your computer and generally improving performance. Download
• Piriform’s Defraggler - a tool to defragment your hard drive, in order to speed up performance. Do NOT use with SSDs, as there will be no performance differences and it will only shorten the life of the device. Download
• Piriform’s Recuva - if you’ve accidentally deleted your report on the 12 different kinds of Minecraft player, use this tool to help you recover the information you lost. Download
• Malwarebytes - a lightweight antivirus program that helps to deal with any viruses, trojans, and other ickies that you may run across on your journeys across the internet. Download
• puush - a simple, lightweight photo-sharing service that easily uploads screenshots to the internet and automatically copies them to your clipboard so you can easily share. Download

Another thing that can occasionally solve the problem is running the program as administrator (in WIndows XP and earlier versions, use the "Run as..." option and specify the username + password that you want the program to execute as a certain user (such as an administrator account)). (You get to the Run as administrator option by right clicking on the program you're having trouble with

PS: To run a program as a different user in WIndows Vista (meaning Windows Server 2008 and later too), you need to use the RUNAS program at the command prompt.

Also, trying common fixes (restarting program and/or PC or running as administrator) can possibly prevent the kind of posts that you see saying they have a problem, then after doing one of the common fixes (usually 2+ mins later), they reply "nvm, solved it", as those posts dont' have that much of a meaning

You might also want to get their java version, they tend to change a ton in between updates.

You can also find the system info by doing "msinfo32" and might be as specific as dxdiag, but it also shows software components, which could also work
