High school, in the UK? What is this witchcraft?

Not sure if you're moving to the UK, or if you're just not sure what to call secondary school.

As someone who's leaving for sixth form soon, don't be a "stupid little year seven" as the older years would like to call you. Find a group of friends (something I didn't manage until year eight) and stay with them, don't bug the older years and you'll be fine.

Is this when we tell him that Year 9 kids will flush his head down the loo, the Sixth Form common room is a magical mystical place, and the "booster" needle is a foot long and goes right through your arm?

As a year 9, moving to year 10, that's the best advice I think you can get. Try and mix in with everyone though. And try and have fun.

Then again I left school 17 years ago, so none of what I said above may even apply nowadays!

Are the Art teachers usually still stoned?
Is there a mad science teacher who looks like the Dungeon Master?
And are all substitute teachers usually driven insane by the class "bullies"?

Just don't appear meek, quiet and/or generally pathetic and I'm sure you'll be fine. Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 are generally struggles between the boys to be the 'Alpha Male', so there will be a lot of pushing around, trying to look tough from the 'big men'. Ignore it if you can, everyone generally matures up by year 11. Choose your friends wisely, but once again, don't appear weak but bonding with the 'nerd' or quiet crowd. Try and integrate yourself among the boys well, but don't compete to be the 'Alpha Male', and you shouldn't get too much hassle. Don't worry too much about the girls. Yes, they will do the usual immature gossiping behind your back, but that's normal, don't take it to heart. Oh and generally, it won't be violent with the boys, just a lot of personal insults, usually they'll be about how you look, what you wear, or where you live. Just ignore it, it's immature and they will grow out of it. They aren't perfect either, remember that.

Sorry for scaring you though, there are loads of good aspects to going to high school too, I'm just prepping you for the negative bits.

Most of all though, if you do find yourself being picked on/bullied, TELL SOMEONE. It is the easiest way to reduce the effects and it really helps.

I know this from dealing with people that have been bullied for two years.

I hope all goes well. :)
