I've been playing on pvp, faction and griefing enabled servers for awhile now, and I've raided many a base for valuables (and been raided a few times myself). Usually, people try and build bases either in caves or in walled 'towns', which somtimes consist of modified npc village buildings. These are usually pretty easy to rob and grief. Sometimes though, you run across a base that is very hard to get into. These bases are very imaginative, and have obviously been proven to be good.

Here's a list of the the good bases I've encountered or heard about:
-The Floating Base: a castle built high in the sky, hard to see from the ground.
-The Floating Obsidian Base: An obsidian structure high in the sky, almost impossible to raid and nearly invisible at night.
- The Bedrock Base: A cave hollowed out right above bedrock, hard to spot by x-rayers.
- The Water Covered Base: A small building covered by water, effectively stopping tnt cannons and creeper explosions.
- The Generic Obsidian Base: A base built on on near the surface, consisting of obsidian, which cannot be destroyed by explosions.
- The Under-the-Lava Nether Base: Very hard to find, and even harder to raid.
- The Above-Nether Bedrock Base (referred to sometimes as a Purgatory base): A base built above the nether's bedrock ceiling.
- The Base in China: a base that is literally hundreds of thousands of blocks away from the spawn. Nobody ever simply walks across it.

Keep in mind, these have all taken place in faction servers, so it is impossible to simply walk over and destroy the walls with anything other than tnt or creepers.

Does anyone have any good methods for raiding these? Does anyone have any type of bases that they've found or built that simply proved impossible to raid? Please, share!
Thanks

sky base, but with lava over the walls that can be turned off at will. virtually IMPOSSIBLE to even enter. pistons pushing a wall over the block in front of it to turn it off. also, same with a water elevator in the center to get back up if you get down. pistons to turn off the flow.

Kill the guys until their power drops, or i think there's a method of getting through walls with a boat.

Spoiler
But that's glitching >:O so it's a no no.
