Parent question about servers and more

Sometimes, we all need a little general help.

I have two sons - six and eight - that love the game. So far we have it only locally on two computers. They really want to go online and play together on a server. They are really great at the game, and I want to accommodate them.

What is the best server to sign them up for? We have two accounts for them, and I am trying to find a way for them to play in a safe environment where no predatory people are present, and they can have lots of fun. They have friends their age that are also wanting to do the same thing. We want them to be able to play with a couple of their friends who are also playing locally.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks for any help or advice you can offer!

Btw it is LAN so they need the same wifi network like both on the same network to do it
LAN is Local Area Network or something

Well, hosting a server isn't too hard after you get past all the instally-ish stuff, one thing you need to make sure though is that your PC is good enough to host a server.
If you need help creating a server, feel free to PM.

You can make a server but if you just wanna have them join a server I would recommend c.nerd.nu it's a creative server they have a survival server too p.nerd.nu I think... It's a safe server with admins on all the time and they do not allow rule breakers on the server and they have a handful of rules to follow and I went on there server when I was younger and if you curse or anything you get banned just telling you! Admins and moderators are happy to help players on the server and they have a great environment.
You can also use LAN which let's people in local distance only allow to join your server! Everyone has access to a handful of commands also. I hope some of these suggestions helped! Message me if you have any questions!

Personally, I would recommend MinecraftOnline (IP: minecraftonline.com). It is an excellent (and very large) server with very strict rules, and there are moderators and admins online 24/7. However, there is a strict freedom of speech rule on that server, so they may see swearing, etc. Just warn them not to repeat that stuff, and to not answer questions about personal information, and it will be VERY enjoyable for them. There are lots of people who play on MinecraftOnline, but it's not a massive server. Generally there are 10-30 people online at a time.
I do not own this server, nor am I staff, so this is not advertising.
Also try RytisCraft (IP: survival.rytiscraft.com) (Creative IP: creative.rytiscraft.com) There are also strict rules, and this server has rules against swearing and asking for personal info. I AM staff on this server, and we all enforce the rules with a firm hand.
Hope this helps!

EDIT: Rytiscraft's creative server is not currently running, and the survival server is having some problems. Try MinecraftOnline first, and see what you think.
(P.S. I had trouble convincing my parents to let me play multiplayer, so I know how your sons feel.)

Aside from the people who use this as free advertising opportunity's, I would either
a) Make your own server or LAN host one
or
b) Get whitelisted on a server with mcban's and grief-protection
Either one of these will ensure that your son's have a good time, but remember, minecraft is open to anyone, so anyone can do anything to everyone......
