Best Texture Pack Editor?

Sometimes, we all need a little general help.

I've been confused lately of how to edit and create a texture pack.
I did some research on it and found that I need to use an editor or something.
So, anyone know a good texture pack editor? (has to be free)
If you do, msg me or reply and tell me please!

I am curious about this as well. Previously I have used gimp but It isn't very straight forward when it comes for texture packs.

I think I may have found a solution!
I was looking it up and found that photoshop is best so far?
Is that true anyone?

Photoshop is VERY VERY [uVERY[[/u] difficult.
Try Paint.NET.

I'll make a quick list of programs I use, supply links to their download location, whether or not they're free, and how useful I find them/how often I use them.

  • Paint.net -- Mostly use this, as I'm most familiar with it and it's tools/interface. Good for anything from skins to texture packs, even some pixel art from time to time~ Free

  • GIMP -- Another great editor that I use from time to time~ Free

  • McSkin3D -- My favorite skin editor by far. It's easy to use, updated for the flip textures, has pre-made templates for all mob skins, etc. Mostly use it in conjunction with Paint.net, as I've just started using this, and I'm getting used to it and it's interface~ Free

  • PhotoShop -- Another amazing tool. Just starting to learn/play around with this, so I don't use it that often for projects/skins/textures. Phenomenal tool if you know what you're doing with it~ Only one that you'll have to pay for on the list, though you do get a free trial for it

Okay, but the original poster wasn't asking for a tutorial, as far as I know.

I use Paint.NET, and GIMP 2 to add some effects like Noise sometimes if I want them.

Both are free and you can donate to them if you want.

You can use MCSkin3D to do mob skins to see what they look like in-game and not just flat.(Though I think only 16x16 mob textures.)

I use paint.net It's really simple, and has allot of features that more difficult ones have. It seems to be the best.
