PermalinkI'm looking to "hire" (see perks below) 3 recruiters, 2 moderators, and 1 builder.
This is not the usual "I'm 10 years old and starting a new server" thread. This is a serious, established server that I'm planning to expand after the 1.3 patch. This is a real opportunity for you to use your personal and technical skills to work on a project that matters and get valuable experience.
Perks
The server barely gets enough donations to pay hosting costs. There will be no real money pay.
Our server runs on a "claim blocks" currency. Claim blocks are used to claim land where you control who can build, access containers, and so on. In addition to the usual 100 blocks per hour played, staff members will get 1,000 blocks per week. This is roughly equivalent to being paid 10 dollars per week, but receiving your payment in claim blocks instead of cash. With a large amount of claim blocks, you could build something massive for yourself, or even start a town or city, where you have "tenant" plots for your friends or other players. Ordinary players generally don't get enough blocks for truly huge constructions, so filling a staff position is a pretty big perk in that sense.
At the spawn, I'm planning to add a board which will list the current staff members, their titles, and how long they've been on the server.
As needed, you will get permissions that are necessary to perform your duties.
If you're a nice person and good at your job, you will enjoy immense respect from the server's player population.
You may wonder why I'm not offering to "op" you all for your help, like many other server owners do. I intend for this server to be successful, not catch on fire and burn to the ground in a couple of weeks due to the wrong people having the wrong permissions. You may also be wondering why I'm not looking for more than two moderators. Our anti-grief plugin is the best, and unbeatable. So we really only need that many. This server WILL be a success, and you can be a big part of that.
One Builder
Our server's spawn is an NPC village integrated into a jungle, so that players can easily find NPCs to trade with after the 1.3 patch. It needs improvement - housing adjusted so that NPCs behave better (reproduce, don't get stuck), more housing in general, and possibly two additional layers - one in the canopy (not on top, but IN), and one underneath (a village built into caverns).
This requires knowledge of exactly now the NPCs work, and creative vision for the expansions. Although the NPC village is already started, I'm willing to give 100% of the credit to a very good builder who improves the project.
Because you're a stranger, you will not get creative mode, because it's not easy for me to make sure you're not giving away or hording diamonds, food, etc. I will, however, provide you with plentiful quantity of food, building materials, and tools.
You will start on a small project to prove you can improve the village and stick to the jungle theme, because I can't trust a stranger 100% based on screenshots (hope you understand!). You will gradually be allowed to build in more of the spawn area as you complete smaller tasks.
Three Recruiters
A recruiter's job is to market the server to attract new players, then retain those players. Ideally, a recruiter is looking for friendly, long-term players who will contribute to the server community. This is actually the MOST important of all the staff positions available, because all players eventually get bored with Minecraft and quit. Without a constant trickle of new players, any server will die out.
You need marketing skills. Being aware of the various Minecraft forums and websites, how to use them to maximum effect, and how to craft server advertisements which are both accurate statements about the server and attractive to players looking for a new server.
You need people skills. If you just get players to join and then hope they stick around, you will mostly fail. Part of adding a "new regular" to a server is answering basic questions and being generally friendly while the new player gets comfortable. Once a player starts a large project or makes new friends, you know you've done your job. If you don't have the patience to temporarily babysit new players, do not apply.
Some technical skills would be a BIG plus. If you're good at making videos (complete with music) and can show me a Minecraft video you made, then you will be much more likely to get a recruiter position.
This requires basic knowledge about the GriefPrevention plugin and the PopulationDensity plugin, so that you can answer a player's early questions. Your knowledge of these will be tested before you're given the position. You can learn about both of those plugins by searching for them on dev.bukkit.org, or by joining the server yourself and playing with them.
Two Moderators
Timing here is important. I need one moderator who will generally play during the day, and one who generally plays in the evening. The main tasks are to monitor the chat for trolling, and to roll back grief in unclaimed areas. This job requires a very high level of maturity. Anyone who gets baited into arguments with hyperemotional teenagers and children isn't qualified. It's also important that you're able differentiate joking amongst friends and real arguments.
You would be gradually trusted with new permissions in this position. Initially, you will only have the rollback permission, while you observe other players on the server to learn who is who and who's friends with who else. Eventually, you will get permissions necessary for banning players, deleting and resizing land claims, and so on.
