At one time I thought they were pretty awesome, but after a while they're not even that funny. And personally, why watch them play when you can just play the same level yourself.

Also, half the time they intentionally act like idiots when playing the game, or play it very poorly, just to try and be more humorous. I just don't understand what's so amazing about them that get's the 1,000,000,000 views. But maybe I'm just crazy.

They got lucky with the series for Minecraft they did. They had an original idea, and executed it pretty well.

They were one of the first to do a minecraft lets play, they also had a decent sub base before that. Then when they turned their "Let's Play" into something more along the lines of machinima people were dying to see the next episode. We all wanted to know who was Israphel etc.

Now that rush has died down I feel, but there's your answer. They are clever, and jumped on the bandwagon at the right time.
