Forge and Optifine

Can I use forge and optifine at the same time? I try to open minecraft on forge with optifine in the mods folder and it just crashed almost immediately. Am I doing something wrong here? And if I were to get pixelmon would I be able to use that and forge or that and optifine, or all three at the same time?

make sure you read the config and update logs for optifine to find a stable version that supports its forge. hope this helps
