Modding: Does it take buying the game?

Sometimes, we all need a little general help.

This may be an extremely stupid question, but I've been trying for a week now to make a simple mod, but nothing is working -- so I came up with the stupid idea of... do I have to buy the Minecraft game in order to make a mod? Since I have the pirated version, it's a mere possibility.

My only problem is when I try the method of Decompiling in the MCP Zip, it tells me that the system cannot find the path specified.

You need Java SDK (JDK) in order to decompile/recompile it

Ah, I see. You need to point a path for java sdk, read this tutorial http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/ ... paths.html it's a official java tutorial. And you should buy the game ;)
