First off, are you a Mac? There is a cool shortcut if you are a Mac that works 95% of the time :).
If not, then forget what I was saying. Try Port Triggering on 25565. Also check your server.properties to see if the Port=25565.
If you ever need help, just Private Message (PM) me!

pretty much, don't run things of your home pc anyway.

having open ports is just asking for a bruteforce. annoy someone and all they have to do is get root access through port 25565 and overclock your computer man. (fry your motherboard, bye bye computer)

Prawk: that dosnt tell me how to port forward

number1_Master: i am on a PC and i was under the assumption that triggering was the same as forwarding, because its under portforward and triggering, but there is only one thing to do right there, and that is to open ports,

First aid: that dosnt tell me how to port forward, and i am pritty confident my family members, arnt going to fry my mother board, but thanks for the concern, if u have a sugstion on how to make a server, or what do to, to make a server, way that people cant destroy my mother board, or anything, let me know, otherwise what is the point in all of these tutorials telling people how to open their computer up to hackers, and why would the peopel at minecraft.net tell their consumers to open up their computers to hackers

He wasn't meaning a family member. Anyone that plays on your server can do that.

Either you haven't port forwarded correctly or your firewall is blocking connections.

Port forwarding:
http://www.planetminecraft.com/blog/how-to-make-a-minecraft-server/

Firewall:
Re-install java and make sure you allow it to make and receive internet connections.

You have done something wrong, there is no magic answer you can't get in a guide.

Listen, don't host a server from a pc. It's just a bad idea for pretty obvious reasons.
1. Your PC is in danger.
2. You will need to keep your PC on 24/7 to have a decent server online (damages your PC)

There are many more, just take my advise and don't do it. You can buy a server for about $1 a slot if you look around the net a little bit.

If it's just for you and your sister, you don't even need to port forward. Download hamachi https://secure.logmein.com/products/ham ... nload.aspx
create a network, then download onto other pc and join. Then just give your sister your ip and play. Simple as that.

If your sister is on the same network you don't even need to portforward, she should be able to connect just fine.
