Someone ACTUALLY explain the problem with first person in RP

Sometimes, we all need a little general help.

Well, as a person who frequently Forum RPs, I have a few reasons.
1) Forum RP, is meant to be like a story. Mind you, a story in which there are multiple main characters. So, instead of "I walked to the store with him." It would make more sense "Mary walked with Gary."
2) If you forget your name, most people won't remember your name.
3) It makes it easier to include multiple characters in the seen. "I spoke to her, and she spoke to him." vs. "Darius spoke to Marius, and she spoke to Sarius."
4) If everyone else is RPing in 3rd person, the person who RPs in 1st person sticks out like a sore thumb. And people may get lost.

I must leave, but I may post more later. :3

I don't have a problem with third. I don't understand how people would get confused. You'd be the narrator of your characters story either way. You can clearly see who posted what, etc.

And to Gobble.
1. Just ask. There's no shame.
2. Then you can clearly state "MAXI'S POV," or "LANA'S POV" and you don't ALWAYS have to RP in the same way. Sometimes you can do first, sometimes third.
3. But it's all about how well you get into character.
4. The way you speak also gives that image, which is what I love about Percy Jackson, or I am Number Four.

If you are telling a story about your character or even RPing by your self you can be whatever POV you want, but with multiple people it is confusing, because 1st person means only one persons thoughts and feelings and if you role play that way you are basically saying to everyone that your character is too important for everyone's characters thoughts and feelings to be heard, so please stop being stubborn and realize that it is so everyone can role-play and you can still "be your character" just you are playing him in a different way.

Well, I agree that it may get confusing but in no way should people go around insulting others about typing how they choose... Its like me typing like this:

hi wanna play on mc 2day
vs
Hi, want to play on minecraft today?

And people have a go at the first one for not using proper grammar. Or people who don't use grammar having a go at people who do. Its just wrong. But again in no way should you be insulted by the way you type.. Just not fair

1. IHazRabiez, have you heard of Dual Narrative? Where there can be more than one POV, like Rick Riordan's Kane Chronicles? That's a story.
2. You can check your App. and if you forget your name, that's disappointing memory.
3. You could still say, "I spoke to Darius, and she spoke to Sarius"
4. There is no problem with someone sticking out. As long as they RP, I don't see the problem.

Now, to piek. That is the most ridiculous thing I have read. You are you. You can't be you and look at yourself in third person. That's what RP means. To BE a character, not to follow. I am not being stubborn. Actually, I am following the real definition of RP, and, it doesn't mean that anyone else can't RP. Some people just can't RP in third person. So it's the same vice versa.
Everyone can still RP, and it doesn't make anyone more important. If you want to RP in first, it's an easier way to display emotion. If you want to do third, it's an easier way to describe surroundings and what is going on away from your character.

The fact is, people who INSIST on having other RP in 3rd are stubborn. They are the ones who are not willing to see change.

Finally, to JetWolf. I agree. Subbed. :) Though, honestly, I prefer good grammar. I wont ignore someone, however, or be angry with them, if they don't want to use proper grammar.

You are only looking at the positive and not looking at what 3rd person means and what 1st person means first person is for one main character third is for multiple in RPs you have more than one main character though there is no reason to insult you for your preference it doesn't make sense to have multiple people talking in 1st person or switching back and forth it is just a way to make a thread make sense ok.

Really you do and maybe if you tried to explain to him maybe he wouldn't be so confused. You are no more informed on why then he is.

Well, ever since I can remember. Forum RPs have been in third person. I personally think it's because it makes things less confusing. Like most people have said, when you RP in first person, then it's easy to forget your name and stuff.

I RP in third person mainly because I find it weird in first person. As you have to constantly use "I". Plus, most of the first person RPers I've come across normally do it like this:

Code: Select all
*Walks into House* Hey everyone what's up? *Get's Drink*
Everything's coming up MERASMUS!
Image
It's got an emblem now, to prove I made the signature.
(Not the images that make up the signature, though.)

I have asked all the people, and Creepercarole, a 30 year RPer, says 1st person is best. :)

And Piek, thanks for realising the 'No need to insult,' but again, Rick Riordan, New York Times Bestseller, popular writer uses about 3 main characters and in every chapter changes the perspective.

EDIT: Piek, by no means am I confused, I am annoyed. I know there is NO PROBLEM with using 1st person. I am asking why people have a problem in a way of venting anger. Now, I am going to RP in 3rd and 1st whenever I want to in an RP.

EDIT: I would say this.
"I walked into the house. 'Hey guys, sup?" I said, getting myself a drink."

My opinion:

I don't have a problem with either 3rd person or 1st person...but when RPing "RolePlaying" you usually say your characters name.Example "Herobrine punches Steve." instead of "I punch Steve." because you are actually still that person but sometimes people may get confused or the story seems better when you say your characters name that way it seems like your character did it and not someone else.
