About how much RAM does Minecraft use?

I'm getting a new laptop soon, but it would be nice to know how much RAM Minecraft uses and what the optimal specifications of a laptop would be for running Minecraft without lag. What 'core' should I get? How much RAM? What kind of graphics card? Thanks for helping

Well the minimum RAM i've been able to run MC on is 512.... But thats on the lowest for everything, My main computer I've custom built to have a terabyte of RAM and that seems to run it pretty well.... xD

1000 GB of RAM...? I've never seen anything like that before, that can probably have a million games running at the same time
