Heyy Guys

OK so I have a macbook that can run minecraft perfectly, but a few weeks go I bought myself a Dell Optiplex 745 (on special, Intel Core 2 Duo :D ) upgraded the RAM to 4GB and I am running Vista x64 bit. A week ago I installed a ASUS Radeon 6450 1GB graphics card (running dual screen)  .

I have been trying to run minecraft for a week and now I give up. The launcher just says Cant connect to minecrft.net but I can connect to the internet? And when I click play offline I just get black screen :/

I took all the contents of my minecraft folder on my mac and placed it in the .minecraft folder in appdata but I get black screen

Any suggestions?

Thanks Guys

I assume windows?
If it was Linux, the black screen sounds like an outdated LWJGL.
As for the login, sometimes, maybe once a month, Minecraft just DOES that. But I think this is client side.
But I cant stand Windows, sorry. I'll be no help there.

hmmm... Is Java updated? Make sure you have the latest version of Java 6 or Java 7. Minecraft will use either, but the reason it may have worked on the Mac is that Java auto updates on Mac.

Yea I have both 32 bit java 7 and 64 bit java on my computer. the launcher is using 32 bit java. Maybe java is failing to launch? maybe if I run mine craft in compatibility mode?

Thanks

Right-click MineCraft on the desktop.
Properties -> Compatibility -> Compatibilitiy Mode
Check the box and set it to run with Windows 2000. 2000 is typically the least laggy.
Hope this helps. :D

can you actually visit minecraft.net ?

just open in browser go to website?
http://www.minecraft.net/

The reason I state this is minecraft interacts with web app on webpage to validate user....

http://minecraft.net/haspaid.jsp?user= <username>

<username> is the username you are using.
Example:
http://www.minecraft.net/haspaid.jsp?user=Notch

if you can not go to website might be a dns server error with your isp ... or possibly a host file issues on your end.

Yea I tried that mine craft.net works fine. And I tried replacing Notch with my username, and that came back "true" on the web page.

This is so strange. You said something about a host file? Can you please explain more on that?

Thanks

Well since you can visit the website wouldn't be the host file... or dns server problem..

Host file is file windows uses to act like a local dns server virii and spyware sometime mess with it... but since you can visit minecraft net that isn't the problem.

My next question is do you have a firewall or on a campus?

Proxy's can interfere Minecraft connecting to the internet. Turn off your proxy and see if it works.

My solution is to just backup your worlds and click force update. Black-screen often appears due to an error in your minecraft.jar. Do you have any mods installed?
