Just tip since I am no longer on curses minecraft forum might want to ask here first...

I was one of the few that actually helped people with modding/redstone stuff on offical forum... otherwise all ya get is people saying "I don't know how to do <insert task> but maybe...."

Well, I see you solved the problem, but I'll add a bit of input: The buildcraft piping and engine is unnecessary. Flip around your retriever and replace the wooden extraction pipe with a pneumatic tube, as shown in the video below.
