Resource Pack trouble

Ok, so, im trying to make a resource pack, so i downloaded the default one from a website, then dragged it to my resource pack folder in .minecraft. I then went onto minecraft, clicked "resource pack" and all it showed was the actual default pack. i went into the "open resource pack folder" and it wasnt in there either. I went back into the .minecraft folder, then to the resource packs folder from there. when I did that, the pack showed up. Can anyone help me out?

Make sure that the directories are properly labeled, is it in a zip file or a folder? After you open it, you should see an assets folder and the pack .mcmeta.

WinRAR zip archive. It has the assets and pack.mcmeta right there when you open it. Soo i know those are in the correct place

Make sure to have the pack.mcmeta file.
