"Server cannot bind to port"

Are you new to setting up a server and need a bit of pointing in the right direction? This is the place to be.

When I try to start my server, after I changed the ip as a first step of getting it to read "online" here, it wouldn't start up. It would just say "Failed to bind to port. Perhaps you already have a server running on that port?" when it's my only server. The port I had it on was 42435, but then after it said this the second time, I changed the port to 25565. That didn't work either.

It did originally be an offline server, 'cause I know some people who are pirates, but I recently decided to lock them out and make it online plus mineshafter proxy, which I just did today, so I still have hamachi.

Original IP: 5.238.64.2:42435 (working)
New IP: 24.57.102.57:42435/25565 (not working)

Help?

Just search up things like "server" "minecraft" "hamachi" and delete all of the old ones then once EVERYTHING IS GONE............it might work. Ive done it in the past and it seems to work most of the time. Because I had tried to make a server then stopped but deleted it and even in the recycling bin on my computer it still failed to teminate so just empty your recycling bin after you delete it and you should be fine. Then if that doesn't work delete ANYTHING with the name server in it and just re-download the server from bukkit or minecraft.net. HOPE THIS HELPS

clarify means to make it legible....Deleting things wont help you with ports.....But, himatchi is a big no-no. if you are frced to run a server off himatchi, you shouldnt be allowed by law to make a server. Port forwarding isnt hard...im sick of these people that think it is....Im going to stop helping out on this forum, because i wanted to answer intellegent questions, but all there is here is a bunch of himatchi n00bs that dont know what god damn google is! If they looked this crap up maybe thaey'd find out how!

As I like to say lots of the time,
Google will be your best friend with lack of response.
First of you have to port forward to even run it of an ip, which Im guessing is your home network. You will have to port forward whichever ports the server is going to run off of (default is 25565). You should be able to access your router to port forward by going into cmd and typing ipconfig to get your local ip address. From there you will need to type that local ip into your internet browser and access your router. You will then have to find your port forwarding options and port forward whichever port the server is going to run off of, remember to do it for TCP and UCp (Ive forgotten the abbreviation lol).
From there your server ip in server.properties shouldnt have anything by it and you can try to connect with the external ip or your local and others will be able to connect through the external, which can be found by going to whatsmyip.com.
This should fix your error fairly easily and painlessly

Well, In my experience with my server, it only works on Hamachi IP. You can use whitelist and Hamachi shows online. Why r u using port 42435?
