Slowest PC challenge
Just to see what people can come up with, I challenge the community to use PCPartPicker to make the SLOWEST computer possible. You can submit your old and ancient PC aswell. It can be anything, and just for kicks to worsen performance, must be able to boot any linux distro of your kind from DVD+/-R (if it supports it) or from CD+/-R
Special requirements:
Ability to boot from a CD or DVD
Must meet minimum requirements for Linux Mint 17 "MATE edition"
Ok on the part about USB 1.1 I made up and same thing about the 4 gig minimum capacity. Maybe a 3 gig USB might work if its gonna be used for a live usb.
TWO GOOD CANDIDATES FOR THIS THAT I HAVE MYSELF:
Compaq Presario CQ57 (AMD C50 model, able to boot from DVD but runs poorly on Windows 7)
eMachines em250 (Intel Atom model, from 2009, not able to boot from DVD unless its external as it has no internal DVD drive)
Special requirements:
Ability to boot from a CD or DVD
Must meet minimum requirements for Linux Mint 17 "MATE edition"
Minimum Requirements for Linux Mint 17+MATE
700MHz 32 bit CPU (or better), Celeron minimum
½ gig of RAM (½ gig = 512 MB)
5 gigs of free harddisk space
A blank DVD to burn the stuff to or a 2 gig USB and a free USB 1.1 port

What about slowest internet?
(stuff downloads at 200-450 KB/S due to bandwidth)

I feel sorry for you

bandwith= essentially how thick the pipe that your water is flowing through (water being data. Thinner pipe= not as much water can flow at the same speed as a thicker pipe)

Censorship - What Internet Service Providers are masters* at..
The minute I turn on my television I will drop to ~7 megabytes down, 1.24 (exact) up.. This is at 3:32AM. When I try during peak hours sure as 8:00pm, I will get 3-6 megabytes down, 1.24 (exact) up..
During peak hours and my television on.. I cannot load Speedtest.net, I use my phone as my router, it's faster..

Well, I'm no computer expert but I did have a computer around the age of six that I was given as a starter. Image one of those big desktops computers no flat screen, huge back. Image every time gettin' on Youtube you had to wait thirty minuets just to load a video. Not even half a ram and a giant mouse. Not even kidding about thirty minuets to load a video. I couldn't download crap because it would of killed my computer only have enough ram for the programs pre-installed. As a six year old I knew more about virus, etc then my dad so don't try to blame the not so quick pace on clicking ads all day... I only got on wordpad and watched videos.

>Half a RAM
I lol'ed.
OP, we already have like 2 other threads for this.

It must be that time again. What is this? How would Linux worsen performance? In case you don't know when you use a LiveCD on DVD/CD, a majority of the OS goes into RAM. There's very few things faster than RAM.
All home computers are fast (millions to billions times faster than you think), it's just the software that makes it slow. I just don't know what else to say.
