Sorry if someone already mentioned this one, but-

One star in the big dipper (mizar/alcor, the middle star of the handle) is actually two stars. well, actually it's 6, but two visible stars. Mizar is a system with four stars and alcor is a binary system, but you can only see two with the naked eye, one from each. It's hard to tell that mizar and alcor aren't one star, you have to really look close, so it's been a simple test of eyesight for ancient people for thousands of years.

^ It's interesting that sun's atmosphere can extend that far, but if you somehow end up using the definition of "inside the sun" according to which the Earth is there, you need to change that definition into something less silly.

Well you could say that about the Earth, does Eath end and outer space begin immediately above land, at the edge of its ionosphere, exosphere etc... Or at the extent of its magnetic field?

It's a matter of degree. It makes perfect sense to say that everything underground is definitely on Earth, everything 10 meters above ground is still definitely on Earth, and as we go up it makes less and less sense to say that. Magnetic field goes literally infinitely, so clearly it doesn't help much. Nobody would ever say that the moon is inside Earth, and even if we found out that some bits of Earth's atmosphere reach the moon, it still wouldn't make sense. Likewise with the sun: there's no clear line where the sun ends and the non-sun-stuff begins, but if the water is freezing, you can pretty safely say that you are not inside it, even if some sun-stuff can reach you.

Wrong. Technically and scientifically, we all live IN the sun. Normally we think of the sun as being that big, hot ball of light 93 million miles away. But actually, the sun’s outer atmosphere extends far beyond its visible surface. Our planet orbits within this tenuous atmosphere, and we see evidence of this when gusts of the solar wind generate the Northern and Southern Lights. In that sense, we definitely live “inside” the sun. But the solar atmosphere doesn’t end at Earth. Auroras have been observed on Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and even distant Neptune. In fact, the outer solar atmosphere, called the “heliosphere,” is thought to extend at least 100 A.U. That’s nearly 10 billion miles. In fact the atmosphere is likely teardrop shaped due to the sun’s motion in space, with the “tail” extending tens to hundreds of billions of miles downwind.

PLUTO IS (officially) NOT A PLANET. The Astronomical Union has a set of criteria for what defines a planet.
#1, the planet must orbit the sun, which Pluto does do.
#2, the planet must be massive enough to be spherical, which pluto is.
But, #3, the planet must've cleared it's orbital path, which pluto has not done, nor probably wont ever do, its in the 2nd most densely populated part of the solar system, the Kuiper Belt.

Hmm? What's this?

There is indeed speculation that Venus used to be like Earth until extreme global warming turned into the 400 degree toxic world it is today.

Luckily it's not all gone downhill since its global warming
Fly above the massively thick barrier of clouds and the temp's pretty reasonable even for our standards.

Closest star other than our own is 4 light years away.
The average temperature of the Universe is about -270°C.
The Apollo 11 Lunar Module landed in the Sea of Tranquility.
Over 200 planets are discovered each year.
The Moon was created by a large mass colliding with Earth which displaced a large portion of Earth in an orbit.
Just about the most important person in the Apollo program was Dr. Wernher Von Braun, who was a former Nazi scientist.
There are 300 billion stars in the Milky Way.
Pluto is smaller than our Moon.

Know any of these?

As a matter of fact I knew all of these except the bit about the Nazi scientist :p
Also, it not 300 billion stars in the milky way but actually 100 billion the same size of the sun due to the fact that our galaxy has a mass of 100 solar masses. This accounts for the stars that would be bigger or smaller than our sun, and averages them out. But if you include other mass estimates bring the number up to 400 billion.
So you were close.

There's no reason why that would happen, although this planet has suffered a lot. In its early years (around 4 billion years ago) it is reckoned Earth collided with another planet, Thea. The enormous explosion sent tonnes of rock into space, obliterated Thea and shrunk the Earth. The theory is that over time this matter coalesced into what is now the Moon. This explains why moon rocks have a similar molecular makeup to Earth rocks. Sorry I like astronomy too. Don't get me started on WR104!

The Earth would also disintegrate if it stopped suddenly due to the torsional forces.
However, if it slowed down gradually the centripetal force would weaken and the oceans AND atmosphere would drain to the poles. The result would be a mega continent around the equator but with no air and six months day followed by six months night.
