Tex Pack Makers: MUST READ!

The latest site related news.

Alright guys, this may or may not apply to you but, I found a blog today that has boosted a lot of tex packs and images from Planet Minecraft. The blogger not only is hosting images directly from PMC url's but, has also created mirrors for your files on two or more file sharing sites in which it is possible for the blogger to collect ad revenue from.

This is a small blog, from the looks of it not regularly updated and I'm sure no one's getting rich but, it's a matter of principal. As I understand it, our images and files are under an "All Rights Reserved" license here on PMC. Now, don't go contacting your attorneys right away, Minecraft texture packs I'm sure are gray area (really gray.) Your creations are however YOURS and yours alone. If you want to collect ad revenue from hosting your file off site where you can collect ad revenue that's fine but, no one else should be able to so.

I suggest you check this blog for your pack. If you find it, contact the blogger, contact the file sharing sites, demand that your creations be removed. This is such a small thing but, could become a very disturbing trend in the world of Minecraft. It would be a shame to see this person make money off your creations.

Wow, thanks for posting this, some people are just asking to get punched.

I'll sticky this in announcements for a while.

I have begun combing the posts and informing the people who have had their stuff stolen via pm. If you can, submit an abuse report to google about this site.

I've been seeing a lot of these sites building up the past couple of months, and I think it is horrible to see in the community. I guess we should have expected this based on how popular Minecraft has become.

Another site that was copying people texture packs and claiming credit for the work is this website: http://texturepacksminecraft.com

This is one of the reasons why I believe all content should be submitted by the user and is in total control by the user even on sites like Planet Minecraft and MinecraftTextures.com (which I run).

I am glad to see that we were able to convince Google to remove the website.

I find it interesting that they don't dare try and copy the LB photo realism packs up on to their site.

I had not seen http://texturepacksminecraft.com yet. I clicked on one of their packs and there was a cheesy pop-up claiming the admin spent weeks making the packs and you have to click an ad link to unlock??!!??! It IS getting pretty ugly isn't it?

Lame in the extreme. Too bad there are not moderators of the entire internet. We could totally ban that guy. I also love the fact that a lot of the packs have the name of the creator listed in the name of the pack. Too bad you would need to take the survey to call the guy a douche for stealing the stuff. Gonna try some ninja magic to find more.

P.S. If this is using my powers for evil, please just replace the stuff above with a message stating that.

Well.. if we don't nail Sarma Sarjalis for a year.. at least the domain will expire.
Could we even talk to GoDaddy to see if they would take it down?

I posted a review to WOT about the site. I know it's not really going to effect much, but if there are any other users with the WOT plug-in installed then hopefully they will see the bad ratings this site is getting.
