I have seen around on most texture pack pages how they have as their 1st image kind of a generic set-up with each block, and was wondering where i could find this map.

It may not be what you're looking for, but Spoutcraft has a "Preview" option when you select a texture pack.
Example using Texture Pack "Love & Tolerance"
