It's that time again! Take a minute to read through these descriptions of each possible theme, and vote for your favorite! The winner will be the theme for our May '13 Skin Contest.
Norse Mythology
Norse Mythology encompases the legends and myths of the medieval germanic cultures, around the 13th century. We expect entries to depict actual elements from this culture - not Marvel characters!
Feudal Japan & East Asian
The rich history of east asian culture extending from the 10th century to the late 18th century, characterized by regional military rule by powerful families.
(Racist submissions will earn a ban)
The Wild West & Frontier Life
This category includes characters seen during the expansion from civilized areas into the wild and untamed. A time filled with explorers, adventurers, pilgrims, and desperadoes!
Favorite Artist-Inspired
Chose a great painter, sculptor, or other artist, and create a character that would fit into their works! Be sure to include a note about the artist you have chosen, and how your submission fits their style.
Musicians do not fit this category.
Life on the High Seas
Pirates, Explorers, Traders and Sailors! Invent a character who has made the sea their home!
High Society & Aristocrats
It's no secret that the world of the 'have-nots' is run by the 'have-more'. These submissions should depict the global elite, the wealthy and the ruling class! Any time period is acceptable, just be sure to keep it believable!
Arabic & Middle Eastern
From the ancient Assyrians, to the armies of Persia, to the oil Barons of today, the Middle East has been a powerful cultural force in the world. Show off some colorful characters from the region!
(Racist submissions will earn a ban)
World Leaders & Historical Figures
The scientists, inventors, political figures, or other greatly influential people who have made a significant impact on shaping the world we live in. Depict a real historical figure from anywhere in the world, at any time. Be sure to keep it historically accurate!
Arctic Creatures - the frosty life!
Depict or invent a person or creature that calls the harsh cold of the arctic home. If you make something up, be sure to add a few notes about how they survive in their challenging habitat! Note: you probably won't win with a polar bear, penguin, yeti or plain Inuit/Eskimo skin.
Venetian Masquerade & Ridotto
From the 15th century until the 17th century, Masquerade balls were highly stylized costume parties held by the upper class. You're invited, but you have to make your costume, first! Make sure you'd fit in to the historical style.
This poll will run for one week, until the 7th, so get voting! You can change your vote at any time, but you may only vote for one option at time.
Happy skinning!

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
1
The skin contest is now closed. Arctic Life is the winner!
1
I like Pirates so Life on the High Seas is what I want.
1
mischajayReec3tyArctic creatures? Really? I don't want to see millions of penguins and polar bear skins, it's just messy and there's not enough variance. I can't skin plankton or ameoba particles.
Oh, I can think of much more than that. As far as I know, fantastical arctic creatures or characters are allowed to, that should provide enough variance in my opinion.
Mario in a penguin suit? NSBW world 3!!!

Arctic will be fun
1
Artic is the one!
I wonder if some one would want XP so much that they would make it from skincraft and post it in the contest!

I lOVE THE ARTIC
1
If Norse Mythology wins, don't forget to do a skin about Thor!
1
OVER half.
1
I think the contest theme should be Minigames, and not skinning at all, because 12 of the last 18 contests on PMC have been skin contests, and we just finally had one about building, but none about redstone.
1
The site contests were started by Happybandaid as Skin contests, which is why the majority of them are skin contests. Plus, skins are the easiest contests to put together, participate in, and judge. Do you know how much time it takes for them to organize a building contest? More than you think... That being said, I still think the next building contest should have some redstone influence...
1
I can't mod at all, but there should be mod contests.
1
I'd like to see that. Mod contest would be new
1
I just realised that over half the pmc members don't vote.
1
Half? We have one million members and 500 votes, lol.
1
PLEASE vote the wild west!
1
Aww... Rooting for Norse Mythology.
Anyway, time to do an endangered seal!

I know some people will be creative but most people will just do a simple polar bear or penguin (penguins aren't even artic animals)
1
no one needs artic stuff get off your butts and do something creative!
1

Arctic Creatures!:D
1
I wouldn't reveal your ideas...
1
Exactly
1
I honestly couldn't care less what gets picked. For EVERY single one of these themes, I have a good skin in mind.
1
If Arctic Creatures wins (It probably will), I'm gonna make this:
1
I can already see a ton of Snowmen, Polar Bears, and Penguins in the Arctic Creatures contest. C'mon Life on the High Seas!
1
I can't wait for it !!!
1
Finished watching the first season of Vikings, so I went with Norse mythology. Looks like Arctic creatures will be the theme, which was my second choice
1
Go vote and play my server the zombie apocalypse is among us. http://www.planetminecraft.com/server/z ... zpvp/vote/
1
I don't like any of these.
1
I voted Arctic since I had a skin idea in mind and I am now working on it.
1
That's called cheating.
1
I am drawing it, sorry for not be clear enough. I am drawing a picture of what I want to try. Not making a skin until it is certain, I am working on drawings for every idea.
1
Another thing I've noticed is that people have this tendency to just vote for whatever is currently winning - it seems like whatever takes the lead early always wins. We get stuck with lame contest themes because people don't want to "lose". It's silly.
1
So true!!! PEOPLE, have PERSONAL opinions!!!
1
It rather seems to me that you think your opinion is superior over others, therefore they should all listen to you. There's no need in trying to convince others that you are right and they are wrong.
Example: "Everyone likes vanilla ice-cream, that's so stupid! I like strawberry-mint ice-cream, it's so much better, so everyone else should like it too!"
For your information, Arctic has been the 2nd most voted theme for the last contest already. Lot's of people like it, the majority has spoken. Claiming that this is only due to people voting for it because they "don't want to loose" or because "they go with the mainstream" is based on no fact at all.
There's one thing I agree on though: The results of the vote should be hidden until the final results are in. It could give a more unaltered and subjective reflection of the general opinion.
But see, that's not even the case with normal political elections: the people already know who has the best chances and a general idea of how the election will turn out. Does that mean it's not democratic?

Well, there is a piece in truth in your words...but it's radicilous how people tend to choose so unoriginal themes... -__-
1
I totally agree. Be original! I voted arctic before I even saw the results or comments, though. Just thought it would be cool. Norse mythology also seems fun, though.
