Where is Home Game. Development Log!
THIS GAME WILL BE FREE!
Hello, I have started making games and decided to make a game called "Where is Home" the games name may be changed in future releases but I am currently a one man team.
Where is Home is a game that you have to survive in an abandoned area called Strelm. Also I am making all the models my self and do not need any help!
Strelm was one of the most populated states in the world but due to their insecurity, a group of people blew holes into a nearby coal mine causing dangerous gases to escape and the state had to be evacuated immediately.
Don't worry Strelm is a fictional area I came up with!

I would switch form Unity to Unreal as its now fully free with all permissions
1
Unity is actually more begginner/indie developer/single developer friendly.
Unreal is a little bit more complicated.

I'm deciding on changing the story a bit on the game and you won't be located on Earth but on a different planet(planet to be decided) and you are in an abandoned mine where Oxygen has been leaking through the walls and the Aliens can't breath it or they die, and your objective is to survive and keep at a stable oxygen location while you gather food and items to keep living.

DeathMake a game because you want to make a game, not for others to like it.
Gotta paste this on my background so that I will remember this epic quote

I can't say much at the moment due to time constraints, but I'll say this:
Make a game because you want to make a game, not for others to like it.
Sorry about the short message, just thought I'd tell you that, as I tell most new devs that. Anyways, Ciao.

You need something new to add to your game.... add breathing mechanism!
- one key to toggle breathing
- if you don't breath for a short time you lose health very quickly
- if you breath in dangerous gases you lose health slowly
- add oxygen mask and gear
- Home is a good idea, maybe you start in your home and you need to install safety measures quickly to prevent dangerous gases from coming in, then try to evacuate.
- Since there is gases, add thick fog like in horror games?
- Focus less on combat for now

Dude this is great! Unity 3D is great isn't it? I tried doing stuff like this a long time ago but never got the chance with my laggy computer. I have a desktop now so it should be better. I would love to be a beta tester if it ever gets that far. (I bet it will)
1
it would be a few weeks until you would actually be able be in a stable version for testing, But yes you could be a beta tester if you wanted just I am gonna need your skype (PM it to me)

Keep up the good work, it looks really good so far!
This is small step, next thing you know you'll be in the big time.

Not bad, not bad. You're starting out somewhere.
However, I must admit, like all others have said, the graphics and gameplay - from what I've seen - suck. Terribly.
Honestly, if I were you, I wouldn't bother doing the models by yourself. I mean, sure, it's great knowing that you made everything in a game all by yourself, but a little teamwork helps, too. I mean, think about it. If you can get someone to model for you, then imagine how much more time you will have to focus on the "programming" (haven't used Unity before, dunno if that's what it's called there). This, in an overall general sense, allows you to focus more on the concepts as well, allowing you to come up with some great, unique game-play characteristics. This makes your game more enticing to potential players AND potential modelers. You get what I mean?
Anyways, my point is, get someone to help you out with the models (and possibly sound/music). It'll cut the amount of time needed to develop this thing by a LOT, so you can make more updates. More updates = (hopefully) better game = more players.
Oh, and I REALLY think that you have some potential with that "define "home"" thing. Really symbolic! Just need to be able to get that theme into the game itself....
