Weird black lines in the sand???

does anyone know what this is? i found this in my minecraft world, i was wondering if its a known bug or what. it doesn't look like a block of any kind. the moment i destroyed the sand (the sand randomly in a mountain biom) the black lines disappeared! wtf?? i dug down right to bedrock and found nothing, im still searching for answers.

This is real, but not creepy at all, whatsoever. It is a known bug, probably an old one soon to be fixed in 1.7. It is related to two entities fallingblock and shotarrow, and since it is a sand block, it could have fallen somehow, and those are arrows inside of the block. Or you could have been shooting down there, and placed sand and that appeared. Moments later you should see a bunch of arrows pop out.

I can sort of see a cross in the picture though. In the top right, there's much thicker lines and there is some sort of weird cross there. Other threads have been talking about finding crosses in their worlds, so this might have something to do with it.
