Alot of people are making maps, adventure maps, puzzel maps etc etc... There is good maps and there is bad maps. Like really, really, reaaaally bad maps. I have been watching YoutMcAdmin (is that how you spell the name?) series called "bad maps weekend".
It is what you think, he plays bad maps on weekends, and i have been wondering; what does really make a bad map? Of course is it poorly done, terrible story (if it is that kind off map) and just copied ideas.
Also, when is a map good? What do we want in a good map?

BUILDINGS! They need to be good, people need to seem them and want to play your map! Good builds are what attracts people to your map but that is not what people will play them for.
You need original idea's. Include a bit of parkour (even though I personally am terrible at that) a bit of puzzles and a lot of mobs. Just don't rely on it, have original ideas.

it's different for every kind of map.
RPG needs good systems (like custom money and killing systems)
and it need to work in vanilla.
Minigame needs good minigame and working stuff like redstone (of course, that need always to work)
Puzzel maps need good puzzels of course. they need to be hard to find out, but not too hard.
adventure maps need a really good story and custom things as well. like custom enemys
