“When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment.
I told them they didn’t understand life.”

I want to teach English to Japanese kids in Japan, or be a translator. You get a fair amount of money for each of these jobs, so I'd be happy with either. I definitely, 100% want to do something to do with languages.

-+KawaiiMiku+-dude I don't really care
as long as I'm getting heaps of money
I'm not going to do anything that involves medical things though. And I'm hopeless at math so I can't be an astrophysicist
Im with you on that

I want to be a Game Developer (Like Notch) / Programmer / Youtuber / Streamer

I'm not going to do anything that involves medical things though. And I'm hopeless at math so I can't be an astrophysicist (I really like space ok). Chances are that I'll end up as a lawyer or an engineer (math, but w/e. I can still change) of some sort. You get hardly any money from graphic design apparently so I'm not going to do years of university for that when everyone will be able to do it themselves in a few years.

I really don't know.
I'm between something with medicine (Trauma Center?), math (Gosh I love math), chemistry (Chemistry is happiness), acting, cooking, videogames (I can dream), physics, drawing, or Batman.
I love everything.

To keep this bit more in topic:
I'd like to be the cop with police dog, whatever that unit is called.
I could train that policedog and have it as family dog as well. It would combine my two of my passions, dogs and police job
That's cool And I believe they are called the K9 unit. Don't quote me on that though lol

I am not trying to start flamewar here, I don't want this topic to get closed, since it's interesting. I just pointed out what I've noticed and my opinion of it.
How times have changed
Yeah, no. Same here, man. I don't want it to get locked either and I agree with you about how times have changed. I just wanted to explain not only my reasons for wanting to become an artist, but maybe other peoples' reasons (possibly if they do feel the same way as me) as well.

Seems like a lot of pmcers want to be something that would benefit mostly them (Earn lots of money by doing something fun and good for them. ) like programmers, artists etc. It's nice to see we still have those guys who want to work for society etc. like cops, doctors etc.
You get the point, I think.

I don't think it's the fact that they don't want to work for society, it's probably because they want a career that not only pays in money but in happiness through their hobbies/interests (maybe something that they've been doing for fun since they were little). And technically some professional artists and programmers etc. are contributing to society.
Ex: Graphic designers helping a client in starting a new business by creating a logo exclusive to that specific business or Programmers working together to create a new, world-wide trending app for accountants to keep track of a client's sales more quickly and efficiently.
I get what you're trying to say with the whole cop & doctor thing but I'm just trying to defend us artists etcetc. because not that many people are motivated enough to want to go through all that schooling to become a nurse or what have you. Although it's a huge benefit in the end, some people just get burnt out and would rather stick to what they know and what they enjoy doing. That's all

Thanks for this! I can see some of the people who want to be programmers or whatever all getting annoyed over your post but just ignore them.
1
Pff, as if artists and programmers didn't benefit society. I think everybody's simply choosing the professions that sound coolest or have a sort of a special identity attached to it - like a genius programmer revolutionizing the digital world, or a brave cop catching the bad guys, or a brilliant doctor saving lives. Nobody wants to be a bus driver, because bus drivers don't have stories and movie about them or a particular identity associated with them, even though they are as useful as everybody else.

What I mean we do get lots of artists ( Some do good music, some try to get easy money ) and programmers making their games. Nothing aggressive in my first reply.
But we are always in need of those cleaners, cops, doctors, they are necessary
Just pointed out what I noticed, these times people go for programmers or artists, while years ago people wanted to go cop, builder, firefighter etc. :p
Do what you want, to make tons of money or to help others, whatever you like.

Ooooor maybe it's just what they want to do in life simply because that's what they have an interest/experience in? The reason I want to go into journalism is because I discovered through PMC my love of writing. I also think it would be fun to be a news anchor or reporter, and be on TV while trying to make mostly grim things sound as humorous as allowed.
Sure, being a life-saving cop or surgeon makes a decent amount of money and has a better story than a journalist (unless I get decapitated), but I don't like the idea of having others' lives in my hands. In other words, not everyone is selecting their jobs just because they sound cool. I mean, that's probably the case for most of them, but... This is a gaming site. Of course people here are going to want to go in to technology, and when you're younger (like most people here), you have a greater imagination which is fueled by the stereotypes the world uses to portray different jobs.

Wait there are people who don't want to do what the like and earn lots of money doing it? And there are also people who like working for society
