I prefer 1.7.3 solely got it's generation, myself.
I hate the lack of sprinting, really used to it.

The only bad thing about this is:

I don't think there are any 1.7.3 minecraft_server.exes.......though you might be able to use Bukkit but idk which craftbukkit is for 1.7.3.....

I would play. 1.8 was a horrible update.
