Tripwires are a form of entity detection in the new 1.3.1 update. When an entity/player walks through the trip wire, it will turn the corresponding redstone on, or if using an inverter, it turns it off. If it is hooked up to a RS Norlatch, it will act as a lever (only with 2 buttons).
