Bored of digging through tons of dirt/soil and gravel and relying on pure chance?

Want to find resources quickly, WITHOUT defeating the need to explore abandoned mineshafts/huge underground caverns to get them?

Can't locate a nearby ender portal frame/abandoned mineshaft (despite that it's only behind a 7 blocks wall)?Skeletons irritating you, but can't find the nearby mossy spawn room?


Then you need...

The Configurable Handheld Resource Detector!

Summary of how it works:
 Configure the device by right clicking it.

Place a raw sample of the resource you want to detect (e.g. Lapis lazuli->(Lapis lazuli block/ore)) into the indicated slot on the screen.

You can copy over the resource data from other detectors by placing them into the slot.

Use the options in the GUI to customize the device further.

The device can detect blocks from 5 meters away when held or upto 8 meters if it's pointed at a block that it's set to scan for.
(The device may be left idle in the main inventory, but than it will only have a detection radius of 4 meters).

The closer you get to a detectable resource block, the more rapidly the device will click.
Likewise the more accurate you are in pointing the resource detector, the more rapidly the device will click (upto 8 meters)

The device can detect blocks from 5 meters away when held or upto 8 meters if it's pointed at a block that it's set to scan for.
A resource detector may be left idle in the main inventory, but than it will only have a detection radius of 4 meters.

  3. Added several item ids to resource maps, so the device accepts more input.

  1. Updated to support 1.2.3
  2. Fixed glitch, with pitch offset not being detected at the same y level.
    Thus increased accuracy.
  3. Added Custom beeping sound.
  4. Beeping increases also increases in pitch (as well as rate), the more accurately you point at a resource of interest.

Updated it for 1.1 With a few critical improvements : 01/20/2012 8:49:04 am1/20/12

Changes in 1.1 update:
  • Much greater accuracy when pointing the device.
  • Can now detect mossy cobblestone and mossy stone bricks.
  • Increased both pitch and yaw tolerance (when aiming the device) from 35 degrees to 90 degrees.

I have an idea for you, it's an upgrade for the detector.


With this upgrade you can add a laser to the detector, which will point at a searched resource.

Some people may find the x-ray mod a bit over powered, in that it removes the need to explore and allows you to have pretty much unlimited resources in a matter of minutes.

This mod, is intended to provide a more balanced approach, rewarding those that enjoy exploration and mob combat, over branching mining.

anb43, that's not at all what tyhnm said...  Reading comprehension must be a weakness for you. This mod allows detection over a limited range; unlike x-ray which allows a person to detect ore and other such things as far as the, "eye" can see. As a modder myself, I cannot stand seeing comments like this fill up a board. Try to contribute a bit to the site rather than relegate someones work with dismissive comments...

I didn't relegate anything. In fact I think you have the reading comprehension disorder, because I didn't say ryhnm said anything, was talking to ryhnm, not glider hence the : after ryhnm. I was telling ryhnm that glider technically said, "Yes, yes it is!", and I was actually planning to download this and give it a diamond.

I hope you start reading more carefully in the future, instead of calling facts that aren't really facts. :)

it wasnt in bin, that was a copy from another post on here, what i get for being a lazy typer... but i still had it in the wrong directory, i had it in .minecraft/resources/sound , working now, thanks! :D

Ender man are easy to kill, (at least on single player).

On any difficulty. Back yourself against a wall (with a block above you) making sure no other mobs are around.

Than let him come at you, and beat the life out of him!

Installation instructions are in the download.

Basically:
  • Install Modloader
  • Install Audio mod.
  • Copy the mod files into your Minecraft.jar
  • copy over the  .wav file to .Minecraf/bin/resources/mod/sound.

I have Found a bug/problem with this mod!

If I put a raw resouce in the "add raw material to dectect" thing

now its in there..

When i holkd shift and click on the item which is in that box it will crash the game and come out with a black screen!

it does this with any material which in in there =[

The detected ores are already in any map that you create, so no need to increase the download size :)

You can find nearby strongholds and dungeons by adding mossy cobble/moss stone to the detector :D

The problem with making it multiplayer is that, all clients would need to have the same mod installed for it to work properly, and it would only be on modloadermp servers.

If there's enough interest, I may release a version where you don't need the item to detect nearby resources.

It would need to be nerfed to compensate (e.g. detect resource blocks within a 4-3 block radius).
It would work on any server (You just need permission from the moderators).

Hmmm, maybe.
That would probably mean I'd probably need to change the art of the item a bit, to represent something a bit more magical.

Enderman aren't that hard to kill on single player though. By the time people find red stone, they probably would have had to fight through several hostile mobs and maneuver around deadly lava pits anyway.

Thanks for the idea though, if you or anyone else has any other tips on how to improve this mod, I'm open to them.

keep the old sedector but add a better one that uses the Eye of ender and have that one have 10 block radius and make it gold insted of iron and insted of redston make it a normal detector.

Thanks for trying my mod.

The device, was intended to be slightly challenging to use (rather than say x-ray vision),
as I wanted to add another element to Minecraft's gameplay.

You'll find that it will get more resources while exploring large caverns, than using it as a branch mining tool.

My philosophy, is to avoid grinding, and take on new challenges, whenever possible.

EDIT: Now much easier to use.
  • Fixed glitch with pitch rotation detection. I.e. previously if the player was at the same y coordinate, it would have ignored the difference in the player's pitch, and the vertical angle to the object.
  • Made sounds have a sharper pitch the more accurately you point the device.

alot of the mods I make, are when I get frustrated/bored with certain aspects of survival single player, than think about how they could be more fun.
