I've found that other websites have started redistributing Power Tools. I recommend that you ONLY download Power Tools from this page on Planet Minecraft or my Bitbucket site since I can guarantee those files will be free of viruses and trojans. I can make no such guarantees for redistributed versions.

In particular, I highly recommend avoiding "freedownloadminecraft" and any website that links to it. They seem to be using content-theft tactics on a network of blog sites for nefarious internet manipulation purposes.

Download the latest version using the "Download Mod" link in the upper right.

The two drills, the Shaft Drill and the Wide-Bore Drill, cut different shapes into the landscape by removing more than one block at once.

Here are the drills in action. You can see the shapes they dig into a solid wall.

The Chainsaw makes harvesting wood take vastly less time. A single chop from the Chainsaw brings an entire tree crashing down. The Chainsaw is also pretty quick at trimming leaves. Just don't try to use it on anything else. It might break.

The Jackhammer makes mining those heavy blocks (like ores and obsidian) much easier. The harder the block, the faster it breaks! Don't try to use the Jackhammer on soft squishy things though. That won't work so well.

These tools need a constant supply of oil to keep running. As long as there's oil in your inventory, drill, baby, drill! Otherwise, you'll get nowhere fast. Oil isn't hard to make. You just need some coal and water. You can make 4 oil in hand with just a bucket of water and 3 coal, but that's not terribly efficient. At your crafting table, you can make 16 oil at the cost of 8 coal and one bucket of water.

Although, the most efficient way to make oil by far is to use an oil refinery.

The oil refinery block is made from one oil and 8 iron ingots. Just place it anywhere next to running water (wheel-side-wet), and it will continuously turn coal into oil at a 2:1 ratio without the need for all those buckets.

Once you have Power Tools, you'll wonder why you wasted so much time gathering without them.


Power tools is an open-source mod, so the full source code is provided. Just head over to the mod's Bitbucket site to browse the source. You can look for trojans and keyloggers in the source if you want, but there aren't any to be found there. Just drop the zip in your forge's mods folder to install (usually .minecraft/mods) and you're all set. Don't forget to add it to the server too.

Hahha, whoops. I got confused. There's of course no beta for Power Tools. What I meant to say was I'd probably update Power Tools to 1.7.x after my other mod, Ships Mod, finishes its beta. I'll update both mods to 1.7.x at the same time.

I like the mod, but the drills should really be able to mine coal, iron, diamonds. It uses iron in the crafting recipe. It would make it even better. Oh and diamond. :)

I used to have a right-mouse-button function for the drills that would mine ores, but it was buggy so I dropped it. When I make a newer version of the mod, I'll put it back in. I know how to make it work properly now. =)

In the meantime, use the jackhammer to mine the ores. It's really fast!

It will be a while before I can make any mods for 1.7.2. I have to wait for all the modding tools to catch up to Minecraft. They made Huge changes in the latest release!

1 - No Blo9ckID file. Can't correct block IDs if you dont supply the file.
2 - After minning with the tools, I can not walk in the area that was mined out.
there is some invisible barrier that is preventing me from walking in the area that was already mined with the tools.

Please Update To Correct These Problems, thanks...

There is no block ID file. The block ids are not configurable.

The invisible blocks problem is a nefarious client/server desynchronization issue. It happens very rarely to me, but I'm not sure what to do to fix it. If it ever happens to you, you can fix the problem by disconnecting from the server and reconnecting.

I think Cuchaz's ships mod is better than Archimedes.  I have had Archimedes for almost a year now, and it is kind of limited.  Not to mention that Cuchaz did a very good job of keeping water out of his ships, while nobody else thought of it.  Also, he Cuchaz plans to add submarines, which are impossible to do in archimedes.

Okay, you might not have to, 1.6.4 only saves generated structures to the save file, so, since this mod has nothing to do with that, it should work.

I've noticed that if you enchant either drill with a silk touch book, only one in ten or so blocks are actually affected by the enchantment, the rest still end up as cobbles. Can this be fixed?

I see you have problems with other sites redistributing the mod,
I recommend looking into md5 certificateFIngerprint
its basically a unique code that is made by sgning the JAR file and using an ANT script you hardcode that into the code and you make minecraft check if its valid everytime it lauches

If they copy my jar file byte-for-byte, how will signing the jar let me tell the difference between my jar and their identical copy?

Signatures are usually only useful for detecting changes.

EDIT: Oh I see... I could at least screen for trojans and viruses. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll think about it.

EDIT 2: Well... that would only work if Forge or Minecraft itself enforced the signature validity. Do you know if either of these two systems do that out-of-the-box?

At forge:
at the @Mod add:
certificateFingerprint = Reference.FINGERPRINT

and in your main class add:

EDIT: just a note the invalid fingerprint will fire everytime you launch minecraft in your dev enviroment so dont put anything annoying or shut down minecraft etc

Thanks for the info! Forge's implementation doesn't seem very secure though. The mod gets to decide what to do if the signature fails? What if an attacker just deletes the invalidFingerprint function and the certificateFingerprint annotation? That seems like a pretty easy hack.

Ok, final verdict. I talked to LexManos over at the Forge forums. He has made it very clear he has no interest in fixing the security flaw. I wouldn't even use the signature system for your mods if I were you. It doesn't actually offer any protection.

If you're interested, I was thinking about writing a mod that actually does do proper tamper detection.
