I want to state that I would of made Mac and Linux version straight after I made the Windows, rather than upload the windows, do bug fixes and then start making a mac version. I'm not moaning, I'm just pointing out what you could of done.

The application won't run. I downloaded it, extracted it from the .zip file and placed it on my desktop. I double click and nothing happens. I figured out how to install it earlier and I already have it installed but it won't open and when it does it immediately says that it is about to crash, and then it stops responding... Please help

1. Try typing ctrl+alt+delete (like you do to login) and then click task manager.
2. Then try launching Techne again and see if it shows up in the task manager.
3. If it does, but then just closes, reinstall Techne. If it doesn't even show up, sorry I can't help you.

I recommend using MCP (Minecraft Coder Pack) to compile your file. Techne also does not have every variable, so you have to add a line of code in eclipse.

MCP should be used for any minecraft mod anyways

Which will never happen lol. Im not expecting the mojang API anything to jump with joy about. Its the reason the Doctor Who Client Mod and our other projects arent going to update to use it. We have found our stable codebase in 1.2.5.

1.3 = so many useless features and one feature that is destructive to modding...that SMP mandatory crap

1.4 = more complicated changes nothing worth updating for

1.5 = API which will likely require mods to be largely re-written to be "plugins"

If Forge and MCP teamed up.....well that would give mojang a run for their money

I think it started in 1.8, thats when it started going down. (We discussed this over skype :P )

and on the API, im dreading it. I see no reason for us to use it, while in-game mod installation will be nice, and API shouldn't be required for that.

I mean, Forge is fine. Why do we need something new?

TheiKing

Because, modding is a threat to the value of the vanilla version of Mojangs cash cow known as Minecraft.

Mojang promised official modding support way back when beta 1.6 was released and it took them over a year to even mention it again. Then they promised an API, took months for them to mention it again. Then they hired the lead bukkit developers to work on the API....many months later ...still very little about this fabled API is known and what we do know about it is that it will be very destructive to large mods.

1.3 and 1.4 are already so massively different from 1.2.x that large mods that worked perfectly on 1.2.x would need massive rewrites and it still probably wouldnt work right. (I know a few large projects that either died or went on indefinite hiatus do to 1.4)

Ive had a long time theory that mojang has intentionally been trying to destabilize the modding community so that whenever the long overdue API/Mod Support is released the community would think of it as their savior.

As far as Im concerned 1.3 and above is not minecraft anymore, the code has been over complicated as has the in game content. Many more people than just me see the issue with minecraft these days.

With soooo many of minecrafts original players (indev / infdev/ alpha / early beta) starting to dislike the game and stop playing it all together mojang needs to do something to make sure their cash cow doesnt die.

Modding is a threat that Mojang wants to control. Look at SpoutDev, re-writing the entire game with no "notch code" with multi-threading usage and soooo many more performance benefits. Hell look at the Doctor Who Client Mod for example, building a game ontop of minecraft. Its all a threat to the value of vanilla minecraft and mojang wants to put a saddle on and tame the beast.

Now, while I can't compete with your long list of words, I can agree XD
1) Yeah, back in 1.6 I was looking forward to this, now that im modding more, im completely against it.
2) A lot of projects died between updates, including the Aether. Every time they got close to being done, Mojang decided to go ahead and update the code. The code is pretty sloppy (although there is a good amount that isn't) and could be better, and they keep fixing some things and breaking others.

3) I can understand that, but I now disagree with it since they hired Bukkit. While im not sure if it was the best idea ever to hire them all, but Dinnerbone seems to be a nice addition to the team, along with a few of the others.

4) Im an indev/Alpha player, and im one of those people. Im starting to dislike it more and more, like seriously, witches? What happened to the survival feel?

5) Agreed, I completely support SpoutDev with there project. I hope they complete it.

I do like to elaborate on my points of view dont I lol.

Anyways yeah. Mojang seems to be alienating the people that made this game so popular. If it wasnt for the word of mouth and the free advertising they got from their original players minecraft wouldve just been another indie game trying to catch on. IF I would have known minecraft would become what it has today I would have never recommended everyone I knew buy it.

The mod API seems to be a rather large problem. I of course have no mod coding experience yet, but wouldn't the logical solution be to make a mod that replaces Vanilla API with something more like forge?

Kovacic's Mod Pack is an insignificant-looking folder on my desktop, and it is the only way I have ever been able to install mods. It is a very powerful tool that allows me to install almost any mod at the pres of a button. And all by one guy, too.

All Mojang needs is a Kovacic's Mod Pack and a mod portal, and their as good as gold.

Also, Iking, modding is part of why Minecraft is so fun. I don't understand why mods are considered poison in your thereoys.

You seem to be confused on a number of points.

1: by replying to me, you only reply to me, not iking.

2: Kovacic's mod pack is (from what i gather from its file structure) nothing more than a collection of mods with custom installers and a custom launcher system, much like Technic. It is not nearly the same as the upcoming API update.

3: iKing was not saying anything negative about modding minecraft. Far from it, he is a modder. He was saying he believes Mojang to be actively working to eliminate the modding community with the upcoming API. iKing has been promoting the use of custom launchers so that mods can become stand-alone and not rely on Minecraft updates (which are causing problems).

TheiKing

It all depends on the level that the API is implimented. If the API is integrated into everything then simply replacing the API would not be an option.

The very way of how people develop and install mods is going to be radically different. There is no telling what mojang has in store for us because they have revealed very little.

As a developer of several Very very very large products this API constitutes exactly what we do not want. Not only is it Mojang trying to make developers conform to everything they say but it is also insane for them to think that all developers will just be able to pick up and update to whatever they have coming.

I foresee many many many popular projects dieing starting in 2013. The Mod Division seen the writing on the walls long ago and it is the reason we are developing our own lauincher and client and keeping our projects on 1.2.5. We can develop on the last really stable version of minecraft before the lan features came and we can develop how we like.

I am a modder and its 2014 now and I'm still coding 1.6.4 with forge, and there is still no api. If we didn't worry about it until we needed to then this comment probably wouldn't exist. BUT, it does, so I'm just putting out there that if you kept updating your mods etc. you would just be helping everybody (Mojang: money, You: the fun of coding, Players: the fun of your mod).
