This simple mod makes the game display the light level of the current block you're standing on in the top left corner of the game screen. Very handy to see if your base is lit enough, or if your trees and/or crops can grow, it can even help you if you're trying to make an animal or mob farm!

First of all, apologies for the sheer number of updates over the last few days. Everything was fine until 1.5.2 came along, then it all broke.

  • WMLL's "Oh dear!" GUI that shows when something goes wrong now prints some debug info to the console (please include this in bug reports of this nature).

  • %skylight% now correctly returns the light level that is coming from the sky as if it was day.
    • %skylight% has also been superseded by %sunlight% for this output. %skylight% will remain in the code for backwards compatibility.

  • Pressing Left Shift + Escape will immediately exit out of all WMLL GUIs and return to the game.

  • WMLL should now use Minecraft's relative path for saving config files instead of aboslute path (should fix issues with MultiMC).
  • WMLL will now attempt to tell users what went wrong when trying to initialize other mods (such as Rei's Minimap, Forge, etc) under the "Compatibility Settings" -> "Mod Statuses" GUI.

The below change log includes changes from all previous test releases between this and the last stable release.

  • All of WMLL's configuration GUIs have been rewritten and redesigned as the old ones were getting messy.

  • WMLL should now prioritize saved seeds over automatically acquired ones on SP worlds.

  • Added a new output parameter; %feety%, which displays the players Y coordinate at their feet.

  • Compatibility with the "Alien Motion Detector" Minimap.

  • Compatibility with Zan's Minimap.

Changes since the last Test release:

  • Added an option for users to stop WMLL showing the World Name/Server IP on WMLL's main options GUI.

  • Instead of applying the text colour immediately, users now see a preview of their config in the GUI.

  • Fixed an issue with WMLL not loading (or saving) seeds for SMP servers correctly.

  • Added an option to have WMLL hide itself if a GUI is open.

  • WMLL can now get SSP world name again, making the "Enabled on this world" option useful again.
  • WMLL's config is now located at %appdata%.minecraftmodsWMLLWMLL.properties (WMLL will automatically migrate your settigns here).
  • Update notifications are now show in the chat.

  • Fixed an issue with a tag in the light level not working. Referring to %RawLight%, you'll need to update your strings again. I will get this case insensitive at some point, I promise!
  • WMLL will not longer take colouring codes into account when aligning the output on the right side of the game window.
  • The indicator output will no longer overlap with the compass while in the nether.

  • Fixed a crash caused by a couple of the light level string parameters when above y255 or below y0.
  • Allowed the user to choose whether or not the seed is show on the "compass" output.
  • Added an option to allow WMLL to override Minecraft's Debug screen. Mostly the same, just the graphs are missing* (Enabled by default)
  • Re-added the ability to toggle the output from within the config screen as it was accidentally missed out in the last update.
  • Added a Gui which allows the user to enter the seed for the multiplayer server they're on if they know it.
  • Removed the useless ">>" button from the output config gui.
  • Fixed the incorrect buttons' text being changed when the user toggles the output location or colour.
  • WMLL will now check for updates upon the first world load of that session, and roughly hourly after that.
  • Improved how world names are determined for SMP servers.
  • Disabling WMLL on one server will no longer mean it is disabled globally over all SMP servers

* Some additional output is also missing from this screen, such as light levels and biome as WMLL has outputs for this information.

I don't think it would be a mod I would use a lot, but seems simple, smooth, and a helpful mod. Diamond and sub. Can't wait to see more from you!
Not hating at all, since this is a pretty cool mod, but you know the debug menu (f3) shows light level too, right?

EDIT: Seems like other people have already said this, so never mind.

As I've said to everyone else that's said this, WMLL doesn't just show the light level, there is much more useful information that WMLL can display. Also: F3 is the light at your head, WMLL is at your feet.

When i would go to the menu in came and tried to go to the light level menu the game would crash but when i hit ctrl+F4 it works out fine wtfs up with that? by the way great mod

This is nothing to do with WMLL. WMLL has no way to automatically detect seeds on SMP servers. If you're OP on the server, you can type /seed to get the seed and enter it into WMLL's config.

yeah but this also gives more info and you can have the light level up without the other stuff being annoying
Ummmm, am i mistaken or is this outdated in Mincraft 1.2.3?

Because now you can hit F3 and there will be light measurements in the little menu that comes up.

It was added in 1.2. There are a few new things with lighting.

[bgcolor=rgb(249,249,249)]F3 has some changes and additions:[/bgcolor]

  • sl: Sky brightness.

Bear in mind, rl/bl show the light level of the block your head is in. WMLL shows the block you are stood on.
