VoxelMap is a minimap and worldmap mod that makes a great effort to be accurate to the colors you see in the world (and your resource pack). Display your surroundings, or view the entire (explored) world. Use your mouse to click and drag the world map, and mousewheel to zoom.

The mod has useful functionality like per-dimension waypoints, mob icons, teleport to waypoint (if the player has permission), and nether mapping. Optional chunk grid and biome overlay (with biome labels in full screen mode)

Full internationalization support, with many languages included.

Modpacks:
This mod may be included in modpacks, if

  1. I am credited (please include a link to this page)
  2. you do not make money from the modpack. No charging for it or putting it behind an ad link (like (Ad link removed))

Install: Install Liteloader, then put the VoxelMap .litemod file in your .minecraft/mods folder.

Old Versions with no world map (for Modloader/Forge):

fullscreen map biome labels: use morphological erosion to ensure label fits entirely within biome (or if the biome is too small to fit the label, at least put it in the "visual center" so as much of it is in the biome as possible)

for comparison, see these images:

Update #146 : 05/16/2014 3:38:51 pm5/16/14

Update #143 : 04/03/2014 2:52:46 pm4/03/14

any site that isn't here or the download site linked to from here is likely to be some ancient version with who knows what bugs. The "VoxelMap downloads" button here will take you to the latest version, which does include the world map

Wonderful tool! Is there any software with which we can view the maps outside the game just using the files in the voxelmap folder? In the browser or a tool to save a particular worlds map as an image?

there is a config option you can put in the voxelmap config file to make it output images that you can then use to view in a browser page or whatever. Instructions are here: https://github.com/MamiyaOtaru/anvilmapper

Once the images are output you can process them into a google maps like webpage with the code at that same link, or try this alternate stitcher someone else made https://github.com/GauthIronstaff/VoxelStitch that takes all the images and stitches them into one big image.

it's been using Liteloader for 4 years probably, and using liteloader exclusively for almost 2 years now. You have an interesting definition of sudden :)

Okay, that covered 6 letters of my sentence. Thank you. Why did you make it exclusive?

just waiting on liteloader. Liteloader used to tend to release before Forge, so that was nice. It's going through some big changes internally though so things are a bit delayed this time around. Hopefully a one time thing.

Here's a suggestion: there are no arrows that point to a waypoint, instead when you open the map up and you right click a waypoint it says set destionation, and it has a large arrow pointing to it thats light blue.

one of the strings I've had people translate but which isn't in the mod yet is "highlight". Similar idea: if I ever implement it it will be about highlighting a particular waypoint, something to make it stand out from the rest. One of these days

yeah and it's pretty scummy.  Nothing is free.  People expect mods to be free and are unwilling (for the most part) to hit donate or use Patreon.  Just use adfocus right! then the people who pay are the ones who mess up and click the wrong button and get malware!  Too bad for them!  I refuse to do that to people, even if they are "dumb" and "deserve it".

Eventually I am going to get tired of doing this with nothing in return.  When that happens, I'm not going to start victimizing people by tricking them into installing junk; I'll just be gone.  If people want to forestall that, they can donate.  Otherwise just enjoy the free ride and stop telling me I should be ripping off the less internet-savvy
Edit Reply Delete
^They know what's up.

ZDD has been commenting how much "people could make" on loads of mods. He seems to think everyone is just in modding to make "a quick buck", and also doesn't seem to understand how advertising (or even copyright) works.

So is the new World-map option rendered based on loaded chunks (like the previous expanded map view option) and therefore restrained by render distance, or does it write the map itself to a file within /.minecraft/?
Edit Reply Delete
  • MamiyaOtaru
  • Level 94

  • November 17, 2015, 8:48 pm
it stores data for every area you visit.  Not the entire chunk data, just enough to be able to draw a map based on your current texture pack.  So yeah you can see stuff on the world map that is far outside your current render limit, assuming you have been to those places before

it won't.  there has been no MCP release for 1.8.8.  No Forge or Liteloader releases for it either.  Part of the reason for that is that Forge for 1.8.0 includes all the fixes in official Minecraft 1.8.8.  If you want to connect to a 1.8.8 server, just use a 1.8.0 client (using Forge if you are worried about missing bugfixes).  Throw in Liteloader and Optifine (for 1.8.0) too and you have what you are asking for

you didn't miss is, there is no hotkey for that.  Perhaps I'll add one.  I've had requests for a hotkey to go straight to the waypoints menu, maybe will put them both in at once.  They'll likely be unbound by default; keys are in short supply

with the world map, liteloader is now a hard dependency.  If you have forge, put the liteloader jar in mods next to the .litemod file and you're done. (get it here http://jenkins.liteloader.com/job/LiteLoader/ , the liteloader-1.8-SNAPSHOT.jar)
