Spawn right by a village with a blacksmith that has an iron sword and an iron ingot in the chest.  If you travel to the jungle biome you'll see that there is a swamp biome by it and in that swamp biome is tons of caves (and maby a dungeon or two(as yet un explored)) and a Witches Hut!  If you go back to the village you'll also see a desert biome and if you travel in the right direction you'll find a Desert Temple/Pyramid by a cobblestone patch (good for mining). Also some cool hills in the distance.
