Oakview Park. A Canadian treasure. A snowy mountain resort dotted with life. It had an almost impossible beauty, and a mysterious history to match. Its woodland stretched over 75 acres, and while a village, mining system and an entire community had all been built since its acquisition in 1850, it had remained as natural as ever.
Oakview Park stood on the middle-ground of Mount Sialas, a British Columbian gem at the very top of the northern border. Ever since it was founded, the resort had been owned publicly, by whatever government or society was around at the time.
This was key to the major role the park had played in the coal mining industry during the 1800s to the 1900s. The Oakview mines went under construction as soon as the land was acquired in 1850, and shortly after, a village was also built, in order to provide the families of the minders with a secure place to live.
The mines ran for over a hundred years. Unemployment plummeted as the number of workers boomed. The caverns and caves deep in the mountain held the purest minerals; its coal was the most potent in the country. At the peak of its success, the park was given a state-of-the-art radio tower, fitted with the latest technology in long-range audio and radio communications.
Decades passed and ownership became private; new owners came in, built their lives, rented a few village houses, sold up again, and left. With every family that moved in, the mining business was stripped away, little by little, until a lack of funding led to the deterioration of the entire system, causing it to be condemned in 1985.
In 1993, Lourette Tilsley, along with her husband, Jakub, their 8-month-old daughter, as well as their other two children, moved into Oakview Park. Taking charge of the running of the park, Lourette moved forward with the decommissioning of the radio tower. Village workers tried to petition, but it was to no avail. Lourette was gracious enough to let the villagers stay, but the tension between her and the families continued to grow. They were relentless in the way they pursued Lourette and her family in court.
Eventually, Lourette and her family decided to move on, and, in 2016, after years of testimonies, petitions and court dates, they’d had enough. The family hired a realtor and sold off both Oakview Park, and Mount Sialas to a young couple from the town just a few miles away, also called Oakview.
You play the recently-moved-in new owners of Oakview Park. Your residence is a luxurious and spacious lodge at the heart of the resort and it is the largest residence in Oakview and it's known to the locals as Oakview Manor.
Along with a large boat dock, there is also a village, radio tower and the mysterious Oakview Mines, all located close to your lodge. However, all is not as it seems as you begin to find evidence that suggests a darker reason Lourette Tilsley and her family decided to sell the property. As you find more and more of Lourette's diary entries and various other clues scattered around the landscape, it becomes evident that there is something much more malevolent afoot and the deep-rooted history of Oakview Park is not all as it seems.
Will you carry on the search to figure out Lourette's fate? Or will you willingly turn a blind eye; maintaining the vicious cycle of terror?
