Thinking about the old Tilted Mill game Children of the Nile inspired this map. I wanted to craft a desert map with a river running through the middle and with that river creating fertile land on either side to be worked by farmers and enjoyed by animals. If you check out the WorldPainter overview image of the map you'll see how it turned out. Up north there's a hilly forest that acts as the source of the river and it runs until it reaches the ocean. The map is 2000x2000.

I also did a great deal more building on this map. You'll find a village in the hills, a smaller village in the desert, and a farmhouse along the river with a wheat field to tend. All building was done in creative. I spawned villagers in the two villages to make them feel more alive but you can feel free to kill them if you'd like. In the map download rar you'll find a text file with coordinates to the three builds so you can seek them out if you want.

This map is intended to be viewed in the Conquest Texture Pack with connected textures on. Some of the decorative touches in the villages will look stupid without the metadata textures available from Conquest sdso please download it. You won't regret it since it's a gorgeous pack.

I really like how the desert turned out. It's a little bit hilly but feels mostly flat. The trees are mostly awesome and really enhance the look and feel of the environment. There are some cases where they spawned too closely together but for the most part I think it looks great. Let me know what you think.

The map is uploaded as creative but you can easily change it to survival (using Too Many Items or going into the LAN setup and changing it to survival). All ores have spawned at their normal rate, all animals have spawned on the island (I dropped in wolves in the hills), and there is clay in the river and along the shores.

I will upload a version of the map without the builds shortly in case you want it empty. Here's the link.

I know, desert does kind of suck. The idea was that no one would really build in the desert though, since it's just an arid wasteland. Instead you build in the hills, which encompass a fairly large space and you build along the river, which is all fertile grassland. Thanks for the comment.

That's true, and desert can bring some balance in the process, good thinking.
