Catlyn
Hello, I'm starting a new project known as Catlyn. It will be a landmass that you will get to explore and complete challenges on. It will be an adventure map with a combination of combat, puzzling, platforming and exploring. It will have a quest system, using notepad or signs, and will feature a main story line.
The Landmass
Catlyn is the name of the island/landmass that is the setting of this adventure. It has it's own regions or "biomes" which give a distinct fell to every part of the landmass.
Regions
Eastern Coast-The first region explored in the game. It is a region of steady hills and vast plains. The region has many small towns which prosper on the salt and iron mines in the area. Fauna includes grass and small flowers.
Central Forest-A dense forest that surrounds the one river on the landmass. It contains many hidden camps and hideouts and is known as the "bandits land". It is difficult to get thru the forest safely. The southern tip has a river delta which is just as forested.
Central Plains- This small pocket of empty grasslands borders the forest to the east. Similar to the Eastern Coast it has many ores tucked underneath, but mining is more dangerous due to many lava pools.
The Bare Desert- As the name describes this place is nearly void of all life. Hot gravel coats the surface and rises fumes into the air. The place has some mesas of stacked gravel that provide some shade in this hellish wasteland.
Mountain Belt-The northern mountains stack over everything else. They are made of jagged stone and hardly hold any snow. They are loaded with minerals, but the harsh lifeless environment made it hard for settlers.
Frozen North-A thundra on the northern tip. It has all the usual bringings of a tundra. Rumor has it that somewhere under all the ice and snow theirs some new material waiting to be mined.
Cities
Portstown- Eastern Coast- This city was once a small mining town that happened to be on the waterfront. Soon the town became a trading hub for the surrounding villages and grew with out the mines. When ships started to sail from other lands this town no longer used it's mines and became the major trading capital of the coast it is now.
Fort's Keep- Central Forest- This smaller city resulted in the need for fortification against forest bandits. The town attracted settlers from the forest with it's high walls and it's location on the edge of the forest. Soon settlers flooded in from raided villages and the city became a security stronghold of the area.
Trisan- Central Forest- Built on the southern delta this trading town was founded as a refueling station for passing ships further south. It grew into a prosperous sea trade hub and soon began to trade with the cities inward. It's current city chairman control all the trade in the area.
Point Calp- Central Plains- Built as a mining fort in the central plains it out lasted all others with it's support from Trisan. Now it is simply a place of constant production and dangerous working conditions as the city works to uproot all gems and ores they can find.
New Dale- Bare Desert- Constructed as an example by the New Lands Trading Company this new city was made to show how man can overcome the environment. Built on the harsh gravel of the desert this city is now flourishing with new geo altering technologies. Now a travel point in the once bare desert this city is meant as a shining beacon for the rest of the denizens of Catlyn.
Stratus- Mountain Belt- The "stairway city" this settlement is both a mining city and a coastal port. Thou visited by far fewer then Portstown or Trisan this city provides an easy route for ores to other settlements. Built in "steps" this city is also known for it's unique beauty among the backdrop of the mountains.
Centrus Minatus- Mountain Belt- The famous mountain city. Built between steep cliffs and carved into the mountain this is a very unique and odd place. Ruled by the Council of Five the city has been isolationist for a few years now, but if hoping to re-open its vast ore reserves to trade soon.
Minos- Frozen North- A city frozen and forgotten. This place was built as an experiment long ago and now lives on heat produced by a great furnace in the city center. The city has a system of heat pipes the web across the homes of it's denizens.
Calcun- Eastern Coast- Built were the mountains end, the frost stops, and the river spills, this city is full of mystery. Keeping quite no one is sure what goes on in this city and maybe that's for the best.
Additional Notes
PROGRESS
10/18/11-Landmass is almost done, just needs tweaking. Will begin work on first city when done. Expect a landmass picture/map soon.
10/19/11-Landmass is complete! Tomorrow Portstown will begin being constructed. I also started a texture pack for this one the side to make certain blocks a different way and change the items to make them more unique. I will make a page for it when it's near completion.
