I'm back with another redstone mini-game! :D
This time I made Connect 4 using pure redstone and no mods :)
I used sand and gravel to represent the different player colours since those are the only Minecraft blocks with gravity.
I also included an auto block-toggle which means after the sand/gravel player goes it switches blocks automatically without the need to press a button or flip a lever between turns.
How to play Connect 4 in Minecraft!
Two players enter game area and take turns hitting one of the seven buttons on the console and trying to get four of their blocks in a row before the opposing player.
Players can connect 4 either vertically, horizontally, or diagonally:
Horizontal: ----
Vertical: |
Diagonal: /
After each match it is recommended you head up the refilling hallway (side door) and fill up the sand and gravel areas again so players never run out of game pieces.
Unfortunately because the redstone runs directly underneath the machine there was no way I could do an automatic reset so you must manually destroy all the blocks before playing again.
I Wonder How It Works?
There is a row of pistons extended underneath both rows of sand/gravel and each piston is connected to it's corresponding button in the game-play area. When a button is hit the piston in line with it it retracts and drops the block of whichever player's turn it was. The other part of the system, which is the block toggle, was a bit more complicated to create, but easy to understand. Basically every button is hooked up to a TFF (T-Flip Flop) so whenever any button is hit it toggles another layer of sticky pistons above the first layer that switch between sand and gravel. For more information take a look at the video :)
If I see my project anywhere else without credit (i.e. Youtube Video, Another PMC Post) or someone claiming it as their own I will report it and have it taken down. Sorry to be harsh but I'm very proud of it and don't want it distributed as someone else's work :)
