This is my project for the City of St. Louis, Missouri. The Gateway Arch is the center piece and was my main motivation going into this project.
I wanted an Arch that both looked great and was able to be fit the player all the way to the top. I achieved both. The Arch is to half scale almost exactly and the inside is completely accessible to the top with windows for a view of the city. There is a minecart tram that runs a little past halfway up in spiral fashion on one side, however it is currently a little glitchy. Ladders are used the rest of the way up. It is only accessible from the underground center I built similar to the real thing for tourist, only I didn't follow any real pictures for the underground and therefore is more my own creation.
As for the rest of the city all I have is bits and pieces for now and is a major work in progress: Part of the Mississippi river that separates Missouri and Illinois; Busch Stadium, Home of the St. Louis Cardinals; and pieces of roads and the park. All is and will be to approximately half scale in the city (except the river). The distance on ground between landmarks may be reduced in the future simply because it's such a large distance and for instance you can't see the Arch from the Stadium. And if you've ever been the STL you'd know you can pretty much see the Arch from anywhere including outside downtown. The river's width to half scale was simply way to effing big. 300+ meters/blocks if i remember correctly, which I cut to less than 100. I plan to do both the bridges to the north and south across the river, Union Station, the old court house etc. I also have an ice rink already half done from another server with friends that i'll probably use as the basis for the Scottrade center.
I used MCedit for the major construction of the Arch and Busch and the rest of the detailing and such by hand. The texture pack I am using is the Quandary Texture pack which you can get here. I have no immediate plans of uploading the world save or schematics. If there is enough interest I might once the project is complete. At the very least I'll probably share the Arch schematic. The vast majority of the work is my own, The_Funky_monk, with some detailing and miscellaneous help from bulletwwings and MrDanglez.
The reason I'm doing this is that i'm from Missouri and a big fan of the city and the Arch as our landmark and gateway to the west. Even if you haven't ever been to the city or don't know much about it, you can at least appreciate the Arch as its a pretty famous landmark. Thanks for looking!
UPDATE 2/15/12: Added Busch Stadium, Capitol Building plus more.
Congrats STL Cardinals as the World Series Champs! Busch isn't done, mainly the inside around the park need to be filled, but otherwise the outdoors are done. The Capitol Building is pretty much done as well.
