The Intrepid class FAC (Fast Attack Craft) were first commissioned into the US Navy in early 2017 and on through late 2018. Ten ships were commissioned into the navy over the course of eighteen months. Extremely fast, heavily armed and incredibly tough, the Intrepids were designed to supplement the failed Littoral Combat Ship Program due to their lack of offensive armament and poor protection. Based of the Atlantic City class QRI cutters, but up armed with an Oto Melara 76mm gun, a brand new MK9 VLS for the AGM-117 Hellfire III, two .50 caliber machine guns and a RIM-116 RAM (Rolling Airframe Missile) launcher. Like the Atlantic City, the Intrepid is designed to do in excess of fifty knots, and in trials have made over fifty five knots. Designed to operate packs of three to five or on their own, the ships much more versatile and inexpensive compared to their predecessors.
