Level 46 : Master Creeper Hugger
Exploration and Puzzle Solving in an extra peaceful and quiet environment...
OH WAIT NO... IT'S CRAWLING WITH HORDES OF "VECH'S STYLE" SUPER HOSTILE UNDEAD!
Welcome to the first Annual Diamond Sword Award Competition!
Its currently Wednesday December 19th... the fourth day of the contest, and still no one has stepped forward to claim the trophy... the map remains ImPosSiBruuuu! ^____--
Once per year, I am going to offer up a new adventure map, and the first Youtube "Let's Play" team to get all the way through the map and get to the end without cheating will win an actual custom trophy (image coming)
No kidding! This is a real prize that I hope will grow over the years to really represent something, since I will be spending a lot of time making the maps the most challenging and rewarding experience I can!
Level 1, The Proving Ground
Tutorial, and some beginner puzzles and MOB fights... the deeper you venture the rougher it gets.
Level 2, The Well of Souls
A quick board with some harder puzzles and better hidden secrets... much harder MOB fights.
Level 3, The City
Crawling with MOBs, can you survive long enough in the city to discover its hidden secrets?
Level 4, Engineering
Left in shambles, will you be able to locate the lost blueprints, fix the machinery, and refill the resevoir?
Level 5, The Catacombs and the Mausoleum
The haunt of hoards of undead... some of the toughest puzzles and traps are found here also...
Level 6, The Five Wells
Hidden deep under Ironfall, there is an ancient system of elemental wells... will you open them and reveal the secret passage into the Burning Caverns in time? Did I mention it will have dozens of flaming skeletons charging at you?
Level 7, The Burning Caverns
Lava slowly roiling and roasting everything in sight, can you find your way across a puzzling sea of molten magma and burned out obsidian caves? The final room is hidden somewhere in this area.
The Map File:
The official map for the contest has been posted on Sunday December 16th, 2012.
I will update here as soon as the first winning completion arrives!
This is an adventure map designed for single player OR multiplayer server play!
I developed this style of game design so that each trap/puzzle/mob fight is activated by players entering the area, and that they reset and are re-playable when the players move on to other challenges... so that as long as the coherency of the blocks themselves is kept, and the dispensers are full... it is fully able to handle multiple adventuring groups going through it at the same time, as long as they don't interfere with each other...
Only real rules to playing this survival dungeon:
1. No breaking or placing blocks.
2. The exception to this rule is that you can place pink wool blocks that you find, and you can break spawners.
3. Enter only with the items found in the starter chest at the very beginning of the Dungeon. You will find items, food, and weapons along the way as power-ups and loot.
For the Diamond Sword Award contest:
4. Please keep your team to 3 players or less.
5. Do not have any gameplay changing mods active.
6. Play in Survival or Adventure mode, on Normal or Hard difficulty.
7. You may post your videos as separate episodes if you wish, and they may be spread between different players on your team, as long as its clearly a complete playthrough of the map challenges.
8. Find the 7 hidden colored wool blocks, find the secret passageway to the 5 Wells challenge, then find the 12 hidden records, and finally proceed to the hidden final puzzle room and complete it to win!
I made a Gauntlet style texture pack that I think looks really great with this dungeon:
Other texture packs I recommend using would be SMP Revival, although Coterie Craft, Wayukkian, or Feathersong also look good too. I'm sure there are others that will match it well, but those are the ones that I tested the map with and that looked right. Feel free to suggest some if you find a good match.
If you enjoy games like Gauntlet and Castlevania, then I hope you will enjoy these levels full of puzzles, traps, and hordes of undead to hack your way through to gold and glory...
The story is that there was a dwarven city with a mine and a proving grounds for the dwarven army, and now it lay in ruins underneath this countryside, waiting for new adventurers to plunder its untold wealth!
Can you survive it?
Will you get all the way to the end?
I think its a fun challenge and I hope you enjoy this map
that I spent so much time putting this together for you...
This is my way to try to give something back to
the awesome people of the Minecraft community!
For all the hours of fun I've had getting to know you in 2012.
On the name:
"Ironfall" simply refers to the some part of the element of Iron falling back into the sun and being listened to for a little while... That would mean the Sun and Earth and the Carbon-based life forms are actually communicating with each other, and would represent a celebration holiday in some cultures.
