Level 35 : Artisan Mage

Welcome to Red rose city.

This map features a collection of sacral architecture of different ages, as well as some fantasy styled buildings.
Originally This project started with the (still unfinished) cathedral.
It has influences from the Kölner Dom, Reims, Straßburg and is built as realistic as possible.
Although not visible in the images, the cathedral features many dungeons and heavy wooden attics which are
walkable. If you see a balcony, there is certainly way you can climb up there.

Maybe you wonder why there is no medieval city. This is because a part of me likes to troll visitors by
breaking their expectations about what to see next by (carefully) mixing different ancient with modern styles.
The stronger motivation is to push your imagination about architecture.

note: download is currently not updated, will be done soon.

Spoiler - about how this project begun
project is (with breaks) in construction since 4 years, and was started
on May 2012 by my brother on survival who leveled down a
huge hill biome with a team of approx 20 members, and gathered
resources.(Till this I regarded building cathedrals of imaginary block
as a somewhat crazy hobby).
Till mid July he constructed the raw shapes
of the arches beneath the triforum where I came into the game, and made
him some proposals for improvement which he accepted.
Somehow I got a deeper interest in this project and we had some months of fun building together on it.
Since August 2012 he began to focus on other projects , so I took over the further construction of the cathedral. (The cathedral had a the reputation of never being finished in this timeline, and it still isn't 3 years later)
Slowly we started to use creative because the chests were
mostly "empty" and I decided to use materials like gold and lapis. Since
2013 we used with increasing frequency world edit leading to the fact
that almost every designed element has one predecessor.
time, more than 140 people helped on the cathedral, and aprox. more
than 4000hrs have been spent by all team members. There were players who
maybe put 20 minutes in it, and other who spent 100's of hrs in it.
Their task areas reached from replicating structures, team organization,
reviewing the construction, and some of them have have contributed with
their own designs. (for e.g. coloring numerous windows, co-designing
some of the gardens elements etc)
- as in June 2016 - I am building since about 2 years more or less
alone on it, sometimes receiving help by people giving me precious
cathedral features many dungeons, and shows great detail especially in
areas where you wouldn't expect it. In my Imagination, minecraft has
physics, so I designed all parts "static credible".

*The inner part of the cathedral`s choir is completed.
*Developed a better version of the Wall of the plateau where the cathedral is standing on.
*The garden of the cathedral has now double the size with 5 new structures.
*changed some core proportions of the cathedral (looks now more robust)
*vaultings of the basilica are completed, and a new structure at the bottom of the basilica is in construction.

Constructed a triumphal arch and a new garden (the one with the triangular segments) as well as a small stone circle.
Several small additions, for e.g the woven arch or the "labyrinth" garden segments
Stretched the garden platform in front of the cathedral and adjusted the structures to it. (not counted in block change, because it consists mostly of raw stone)

-added choir polygon which is half- finished.
-added a new dungeon which is almost finished
-added new structures in front of the facade of the cathedral

Note: the "Basilica caeli" which is now listed as a seperate project, will in the future be added to the project,

-overall block change since last update ~200k +

Update #18 : 02/03/2014 8:53:49 am2/03/14

-facade upgraded to stained glass.
-fundament dungeon extendened (~+100k blocks) (not part of adventure-map)
-added a gigantic "garden" (more pics soon) (~+150k blocks) (not part of adventure-map)
-added town-center in "ancient" style. (~+200k blocks) (not part of adventure-map)
-added an adventure map version where players can learn something about how the cathedral was build, with very beautiful pathways showing the lesser known areas.
If played on non peaceful it will certainly result in the destruction of the church

-considerable parts of the main-portal and main towers are constructed (80k blocks)

Update #5 : 10/02/2012 11:21:25 am10/02/12

Not long ago before the last trailer I had discovered that the golden ratio in square is in some important points nonexistant in our cathedral, so we have decided to boaden the distance between the ships, till it matches with the heigt and the distance between 4 main pillars and the pillars alonside. This will be archived with an worldedit wich deletes the existant vaultings and shift the arches, so the vaultings must be new constructed.(this is almost done)

Wow... Nice work!
Hi Caesreon! I'm an editor of China.
I've found your new project
Red rose city | year 4 of construction
. It's really a nice job.
Therefore I'm here to ask if I could repost your project to our website MCBBS:http://www.mcbbs.net/forum.php.
However, due to the fact that our country has blocked a lot of foreign websites.
So could you allow us create a new Chinese downlink.
I will list your name and the original website clearly.
(Diamond for you :D)

Holy balls. This is. The most epic. Minecraft build. Ever. Of all time. I would love to help, but I think my already sub-par building skills just got dwarfed a lot more by this build. Seriously, all this and only 40% complete? I don't think I'll ever see the day this is complete. This project will be passed down from generation to generation for a thousand years until it covers the entirety of the Minecraft world it is built in (darned Far Lands). So epic! *drools*

I love the interior structural details, the attics, walkways, frameworks etc.  I would have loved to do that with my cathedral but I think I was hamstrung by limiting it strictly to 1 block == 1 meter on the real world model for mine.  I've been tempted to go 2:1 but I don't think I could pull it off nearly as well as you have, this is a great build

The earlyst traces to this project you can find in this forum,
from 4th mai 2012:

Well it is in german, and the cathedral was named lma-cathedral by then ( which is also the url-name of this project on pmc).If you look on the usernames, you will find them in the credit list.
The second forum you can find us (from november 2012)
and this is one of the oldest screenshots we have:
I love the way you used mathematics to build some things. However, I think it's kinda weird that you misspelt "Earliest" but managed to properly spell "Alternatively". I really love the detail here though!

(P.S., This is an example of a Sandwich compliment. It has criticism, but it has praise to rule it out. It's very effective. Try it next time you comment on someone's project!)

Amazing scale, how much planning went into this? We're almost certain this wasn't a build as you go ;)
 • Level 35

 • March 28, 2014, 11:14 am
The basic proportions of the distance and height of the inner pillars are planned, as well as the appearance of the windows. The rest is "grown", so I planned them whilst I built them.(Edit: At the beginning the golden ratio was used, and planning was done with drawings etc, but lateron imagination was good enough to do it freely.)The Challenge is to keep many different depending aspects whilst building simultaneously into account and try to imagine how the aspects change as you imagine how to optimize one aspect. Aspects would be color, contrast, style, visibility, static credibiility, the apperance from different distances or viewing angles, the mood/aura it creates , walkability). This process includes critique and sometimes help from the team.

Its the fact that your using diamond gold and emerald blocks like that on the pillars and the archs.. There are much better blocks you can use for that color or for making another design. Like sandstone, the clay blocks maybe even wool (though wool could be iffy) quartz etc.. there are tons of other blocks you can use for the same shade of color or make a even better design on the pillars and archs.

And usually I would say lapis too.. but that actually does look nice the way your using it.
Thats my opinion though really the only thing that bothers me everything else is quite amazing!
