Welcome to Red rose city.
With this update this project is 5 years old. Changes since last year focus mainly on quality, and completion of already existing structures. The cathedral is as always 'almost' finished, but reaches for the first time the desired quality and feel. This also counts for the garden you see in the titleimage. Most structures take into account that players want to climb, walk or destroy them, so they show great detail in places where you wouldn't expect it.Hope my passion for old-fashioned architecture is somehow contagious to you - enjoy :)
About how this project arose:
This project was initiated by my brother in 2012 who levelled down a world in survival with a team of aprox 30 people, and constructed an early prototype of some of the cathedrals pillars.
Till then I regarded building a cathedral of imaginary blocks as a somewhat crazy hobby, but once he showed me the project and the community I got interested in drawing some proposals for windows which he accepted. Soon after that I buyed minecraft which resulted in me in taking over the leadership of the project.
Over time, more than 145 people helped on the cathedral. In the "survival time" it was mostly replicating structures as windows etc. But their task areas involved also farming resources, giving me precious critique and even contributing with own designs to the cathedral. The players contributions include the stained-glass design of many of the cathedrals windows, an altar, many garden-elements, and even parts of the basilica.
In the Survival-time, we had a huge wooden scaffolding and train system for transporting resources.
But when time went on, the complecity and resources the project demanded increased to a level, where fly , gamemode and worldedit became a necessity to continue it. One central demand I had to the project was that it should be build to the highest standards we as a team could imagine of, and if someone had a proposal which improved something, it was changed, (with me having the final say about it), so most parts of the project are in their 2nd or 3rd ''iteration'. This also includes things as the core proportion of the cathedral which has been changed several times. Since 3 years, I am building rather alone on it, receiving critique and help from time to time.

This update focuses on quality, with few structures added. Although, blockchange should exceed 1/2Million.
This is the first update where this project reaches the desired quality and atmosphere (most visible in the titleimage)
The changes include:
Rework of the main-garden you see in the titleimage, (should be perfected now)
Finished the cathedrals ambulatory,
New floor decoration with terracotta patterns,
Rework of the dungeon of the cathedral (much more spacious now)
added on major facade side pink-stained window resembling flames
Rework of the surrounding of the mainentrace of the cathedral in progress (currently very unfinished)
new structures emerging on the side of the garden, but not sure if it will stay (collosseum-like structure and another one resembling the architecture of palmyra
additional credit since last update goes to Nefarias and haleth for giving critique.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The interior of the cathedral is now 98 % finished. (some windows quite lack color)
The exterior of the cathedral is 95% finished, - the 5% unfinished is the exterior side of the pink-stained window.
the cathedrals dungeon system is about, 70% finished.
The garden you see in the mainimage is finished
