The UHC Blox are a set of one-command installers for creating UHC matches with Minecraft 1.8 or later. Easy to install modular design. Just copy, paste, and play.

Follow me on Twitter to keep up to date or join the Discord group to chat.

One-Command Installers
1.9 - Core / Options / Events / Buff Get! / Reset
1.8 - Core / Options / Events / Buff Get! / Reset

Provide the following in the description for any published or streaming content:
UHC Blox - http://www.planetminecraft.com/project/minecraft-uhc-box/

What is UHC?
Ultra Hardcore is a "last man standing" death match with no natural health regeneration.

Alone or in teams, players are spread out in the world and must gear up using standard survival skills in order to better kill their opponents.
Installation
Supported Versions
1.9 - 1.9, 1.9.2, 1.9.3, 1.9.4
1.8 - 1.8.2, 1.8.3, 1.8.5, 1.8.6, 1.8.7, 1.8.8, 1.8.9

spigot not supported.

How to Install
1. Create new world in game mode: creative and go to the location that is to be the center of your match.
2. Use "/give @p command_block" in chat and place command block at chosen center.
3. Paste in Core command (must be in gamemode 1), then place a redstone block on top.

Some commands, when pasted in multiplayer, will cause a disconnect but the command was still pasted in. To verify, click cancel when leaving the command block UI after reconnecting.

Once in the lobby, install any additional modules you'd like. To do this, place a command block, paste in module's command, then place a redstone block on top.

Place the world folder in your server directory and set enable-command-block=true in server.properties.
Modules
Core
This module is the main component and must be installed before any others. It features 14 selectable teams plus options to play solo or only spectate, a team randomizer, and a world pre-generator.

Options
This module adds a variety of team, display, and game mechanic options including a minute marker, Nether banning, potion banning, notch apple banning, and automatic item cooking*.

Events
This module adds a variety of world border, time, and display events that can occur after a certain amount of time has past including 3 shrinking border modes, eternal time, hidden name tags, and glowing players*.

Buff Get!
This module adds a game mechanic that gives players iron boots which upgrade speed, strength, or health with each achievement earned. Used during HermitCraft UHC season 7. Concept by xisumavoid.

Reset
This module removes all traces of the UHC Blox and restores the world to default settings.

Known Issues
Opening a book very quickly after changing a setting will cause the book to display that setting incorrectly until reopened.
With arena mode on, players in the nether will be spread to the nether ceiling when the timer is up.
In 1.8, If no players are in the overworld for 1 minute, the blox will unload and stop running until a player returns.
Joining a server set to peaceful and changing difficulty causes the hunger bar to phantom refill. Reconnect to fix.

Could you help me with a different version of the UHC command. I'm wanting to make a server with the command block code but I'm not the best with command blocks. I'm wanting a UHC PVE server but when you die your inventory gets erased a you go back to spawn. Oh and no teams.

Working on making 1.9 version compatible with 16w20a. Couple days tops.
Edit Reply Delete
Hey Man, Great Command, would suggest adding a PVP delay (as in PVP will be enabled after X minutes - With option to change) and would also suggest being able to edit having a period at the start of no damage ( an editable menu item that allows you to say, dont loose hunger and health for X minutes- and being able to both edit and switch that off so you can take damage instantly)
and maybe also add an option to put in a countdown (5... 4.... 3.... 2.... 1....) every X minutes to mark either the walls about to shrink or an episode ending (if on Youtube) would love a function to be able to do that and maybe a custom message like (5.... 4.... 3.... 2.... 1.... End of episode!) (and maybe have it change every time like, Episode 1 or 2-3-4-5 etc.)

Great Command Love It! but these are some things it could use!

You must be in gamemode 1 to change options. It's stated in the book when you hover over "Core Options" and on this post in the "Help" spoiler.

NEWS:

After hearing feedback from the community, I've decided to change the 1.9 option checkmarks to filled/empty dots, which should help with the issue of not knowing which options require a checkmark to run.

I've also made a very small improvement. It should never rain during the lobby now, and at the start of the game "time until bad weather" is set to a random value, just as if you were loading a world for the very first time.

1. Is there a reason that I have to place the redstone block instead of just clicking "always active" (couldn't the command block summon a redstone fallingSand underneath to activate the rail)?

2. It's hard to see when an option is unchecked. The hover works, but is annoying considering I have advanced tooltips on. perhaps an ✘ character?

3. Setting the minute mark to n such that n <= 0 causes the minute marker to spam the chat every tick and increment by n.

4. Speaking of minute marks, do you think it is worthwhile to add that manual minute mark trigger (/trigger showtime set 1) that will show the time in minutes at any point regardless of whether or not it is enabled? This would also fix #3 as it would make the incrementation of the minute counter independent of the interval.

5. setting names, glowing, and border shrink time (time until border shrink) to negative values activates them immediately as if they were set to zero. this is kind of expected, however an alternate use for negative values is to invert their behaviours. names stay visible until a certain point; players glow until a certain point. For shrink it doesn't make sense to have negatives though.

6. These results for the negative values would presumably happen for eternal time, however eternal time seems to be completely broken.

Nice work btw on the updated 1.9 box!

1. You already asked me that. See below.

2. How is it hard? If the check isn't there, it's unchecked. Thought about an X character but didn't like it.

3. Why would you want to set the minute marker to a negative number? Works as intended as far as I'm concerned.

4. You suggested this before. Too much work. Not enough room. Sorry.

5. Events has 39 free characters. Find a way to make it do stuff with negative numbers with only 39 characters and I'll happily add it.

6. Eternal works for me just fine. Did you forget to 'check' it?

1. You're right. I did ask that before. Sorry.

2. Ah. Ok. The confusing part differentiating the checkable options from the uncheckable options.

3. You wouldn't. I was testing to see how it handles invalid cases. The events handle them well, by treating it as zero. Here, it gives an undesirable result; spamming the minute mark to the chat every tick. Perhaps you could fix it by defaulting to the minimum or maximum case if it's out of bounds?

4. Can you explain how the current time tracking system works? I don't see where the work is.

5. Ooh... tough. I'm not that familiar with your module system, though I could more formally state the logic for how it would work.

6. I definitely checked it. I'll have to do more testing to confirm.

4. Time isn't tracked. When the game starts time is set to 0 and the eternal delay value is multiplied by 300. Then, if mode is 'Light', 558 is added to the delay value, otherwise, if mode is "Night', 3865 is added instead. A clock runs during the game which reduces the delay value by 1 every 4 game ticks until it reaches 0, at which point time is stopped.

4. was referencing the minute marker, not the eternal day. How does the minute marker work?

6. So, it definitely works, but it's quite unintuitive. I expected that if I set the eternal time delay to n minutes, then the eternal time would immediately activate after n minutes. Instead it waits until the sun/moon is at the position where eternal time would be. This is elegant, however the way the UI is set up does not make it clear that this is the case. I have yet to test negative times with this, but boundary cases should be added.

4. The interval value is copied to a different objective and multiplied by 300. A clock then removes 1 from the copy every 4 game ticks until 0 is reached, at which point the copied score is over written by the interval value and again multiplied by 300. Also the interval value is added to a fake player's score and a tellraw displays the fake player's score.

6. It is what it is and I doubt I'll change it. I see your point about manually setting the value. Thing is, the delay used to be in days but I switched it over to minutes to be consistent with the other events. I could either set it back to being day values in the book, or remove the info in the "Advanced" tab in this post pertaining to eternal time. I'm more inclined to do the latter.

4. Ah. All you'd have to do then is create a separate interval equal to your current interval modulo 300, then use that one to control the fake player score and the normal one to control the tellraw message. You also need a trigger to activate the tellraw message when people request, however you could save on tellraw message by having the interval just run the trigger on everyone.

6. Yeah. The best option is probably switching to the fixed minute system, however if you don't want to do that I would strongly recommend switching back to days for maximum usability. The hover message could even be switched to account for the mechanics; "If checked, Time will stop after a number of minutes" to "If checked, time will stop on the selected day". It would also be nice if 0 or lower immediately set the eternal time (if someone wanted to play with zero day time, for example).

Have been messing around with the box this evening, basically seeing how some of the new settings(to me anyway) work, such as arena mode for example. Though one thing I noticed was that regardless of what I set the episode minute marker or the arena setting too. I'm not seeing any announcement on screen. Such as in previous updates. I'm not sure whether this is because I was testing it in SP and not on a server, I really don't know

This is likely because you didn't 'check' the options. The minute marker and the 4 Events module options must be checked to run. This is different for how the 1.8 version functioned.

What is the likelihood of having an option (or a module) that controls when PvP is enabled? I don't like having PvP in the first 20 minutes, but some people either don't listen or are untrustworthy.

I would love to add this feature.  Sadly there just isn't a decent way to achieve it.  The only way I could automate it would be to temporarily put everyone on the same team and set that team's friendly fire option to false.

Just had an idea. I could put the enemy names option on an adjustable timer, so that enemy name tags do not appear until a certain amount of time has past, making PvP harder to achieve. It's not a perfect solution but it could definitely help.

Hello.

I am having issues with setting up UHC BLOX for 1.8. The problem described occurs in 1.8.8 / 1.8.3 on servers and also 1.8.4 in singplayer. (rest not tested).

Setting up the module works fine, I'm getting teleported etc but the book just looks like this:

Any ideas?

1.8.4 is not supported due to a bug regarding entity UUIDs. However, after alittle testing I was unable to reproduce your issue. Can you walk me through exactly what you did to get those results?

Edit: Did a little more testing and I have a theory. Did you happen to copy and paste the command into a word processor then copy from the word processor before pasting it into a command block? If so, that's the issue. Some word processors will change quotation marks into left and right quotes which minecraft does not accept.

There is probably an option in your word processor to disable the reformatting. Look for 'smart quotes' and set them from curly to straight.

Thanks for doing this, this makes my UHCs 100x smoother to run. Is there any way you could add an option to spread players alone, while on teams? So for example, split players into 2 teams but people spawn individually. If not, then this could be fixed with just spreading people then me doing another command to spread people alone

There just aren't enough characters available in the Core module to make this an option. However, a 'find and replace' on the Core command could modify it to suit your needs quite easily.  Paste the command into a word processor, find 'true @' and replace all with 'false @', omitting the quotation marks. Or, as you said, manually spreading the players again after the start would also work.

If the golden box isn't spinning then that means no commands are running, which means you won't be able to do anything.  Either command blocks aren't enabled on your server or all the minecart command blocks are gone.  Did you use /kill at any point?

I have a lot of questions, but one is perhaps the greatest of them. How did you manage to create random terrain in vanilla Minecraft? Hold on... /clone newly-generated chunks to the center of the world? Also, I struggle to comprehend how this is all possible with just a few command blocks. Many one-cmd-block creators have very small concepts/mechanics and they often reach the character limit.

The Blox don't create terrain. Minecraft does. What the Blox do, if you run the terrain generator, is teleport you around to force Minecraft to generate the terrain before the game, so that when the game starts, the server has much less strain on it.

My system saves characters by running directly off of minecart command blocks.  Typically, a 1-click installer is a stack of minecart command blocks that 'setblock' actual command blocks with commands already in them. By skipping that, and having them run just as minecarts, saves me nearly 50 characters per command needed, at the cost of clock speed.  Minecart command blocks, when powered continuously, run at 5Hz, instead of the typical 20Hz clocks used by command blocks.

Awesome work, love the UHC BLOX commands! Do you think it could be possible to add a gentleman's rule timer that could disable PVP for a given length of time? Even if it were simply just a timer that made a noise and drew people attention to a chat message - it would still be very useful :) Thanks again for your work Gerry

Disabling PVP would be a pain to work out and I don't have the space to add a new timer to the Core or More Options module. I suggest using the minute marker as the timer and tell your players no PVP till after the first mark.

I may add something in the future if a good method presents itself and I have other things to add, so I can make a whole new module.

Thanks for the reply! I had seen a gentlemans rule timer on a Hermitcraft UHC and thought perhaps that is something you had already done and so wouldnt have been too time consuming for you. Thanks for the suggestion we were going to start using the timer for videos anyway so that works out well for us.

I haven't implemented a gentlemen's rule for HermitCraft.  Perhaps they did for their Extreme UHC's but I don't have anything to do with those.
